I just had all carpet removed from family room and vinyl removed from kitchen and have tile now in place. The bass sounds boomy at times or not tight. It seems like less bass.
Would acoustic panels and throw rug help?
You’ve changed a soft or absorbent room into one quite reflective. The sound from your speakers and subwoofer are bound to change, sometimes drastically. Tile is great for a lot of reasons, but is a killer for sound. I’d certainly start out with a large throw rug to see if that helps tame the problem.
+1 to all the above. I also wonder if it's possible that in redoing the room, you ended up with the subs in slightly different positions than they were in before? If it's definitely bass that sounds different, and not just mid-range frequencies, and higher, I would suspect sub positioning as being a factor. I would definitely suggest adding at least a throw rug or two, with a rubber pad beneath, but I would also recommend a sub crawl. And I assume that you recalibrated with your Pioneer after the remodel?
I am planning on getting a throw rug with the mat. I don't have the Pioneer anymore. I have a receiver with XT.
I notice with dialog sometimes you feel it on the couch. Like the voice vibrates.
The subs are in the same position now like when it was on carpet.
I contacted GIK Acoustics and they suggested I get 3 of the 244 bass traps and to place them at the back wall since my couch is against the wall.
Anyhow I ordered them and will be here soon.
I also ordered the area rug and the rug mat.
Just wanted to add .02 to the conversation. Putting the subs in the exact same place, assuming that since it was good before, it will be good now, is a mistake. Lots of new reflections in that room, so assume nothing and start from scratch with positioning the subs.
Thanks! The sub is still in the right place.
My wife that always complains about the bass and her ears has for the first time admitted it sounds really nice with the panels. The bass is tight and scattered vs before it was tighter in one place more then another area. In other words it has helped evening out the frequency in the room.
