Klipsch R-115SW or SW-115

Planning on getting a new subwoofer this weekend. I have two local choices.

Klipsch R-115SW, new in box. No warranty. $550

or

Klipsch SW-115, Used for $325.

They will be used in a 5.1 system, mostly movies and video games. KG 5.5 fronts and KV3 center.

Is the R-115SW worth the extra $225? It looks better, but does it performer better?

Thanks.

I wouldn’t spend that much with no warranty. Those subs go on sale frequently. Maybe someone else has some better input...

Same advice here. I picked up a Klipsch R-115SW from Fry's for $420 (tax free) earlier this year. It even came with a WA-2 wireless kit for free. Just a good sale, not open box.

I've seen the Fry's deals, but I live in the Northeast so there's no Fry's anywhere close to me, and I heard they don't offer shipping on them.

Any reason why you couldn't get a HSU VTF-2 mk5 for $604? It will be very similar in performance to the Klipsch R-115 and a better made product.

Rec Room>Vivitek 1080p projector w/100" screen/Hisense 65" 4K, Onkyo TXNR656, Fluance signature towers & center, AV5 sides, Loft 40 rears, RBH I-12/e x2, I-12 x2 subs. Living Room>Sammy 59" Plasma, Onkyo HTRC560, Klipsch KF28 L/R, KC25 center, Polk RC60i in-wall rears, SVS PB12NSD (x2) subs. PC set up> 27" LG IPS, Onkyo TXNR509, Primus P363's, JBL 550P sub. Master Bedroom>Samsung 42" LED, Pioneer VSX532, Denon 5 spkr set, Jamo J110 sub. Gaming> PS4 (x2), PS3, XBox One (x2), XBox 360

How can it be new in the box with no warranty?

If that's the case get the SW-115. Pretty much the same sub minus the copper colored cone.

Klipsch RF-62II, RC-500, RS-400, SVS PC12+,
Def Tech SC8000
Harman Kardon AVR 1600
PS3, Apple TV, Sharp 70" Qattron

I'll consider that as an option if I don't get either of these. I really want a 15'' sub for the wow factor and I would also like to get one this weekend since my two 12'' Velodynes quit recently. There's a Velodyne F-1500 for sale too but it's older than the two I have now so I don't want to chance it for the price he wants.

The ad says he bought two but one was enough for his setup. I'm guessing he got it cheap and it cost a lot to ship back so he's trying to flip it.

Looking online the SW-115 has terrible reviews and the R-115SW has great reviews. If they really are pretty much the same I'll get the SW-115. I don't care about the copper cone since my KG setup is black cones anyways. I could probably make a new grille and put trim on the bottom of the sub to dress it up like the R-115SW.

Not sure exactly what "wow" factor you are referring to. You mean a big cabinet/driver size? With prices being close, I would certainly buy the HSU VTF-2 over the R-115. If you decide to go the R-115 route, be sure to have the guy unbox it and put it through it's paces to make sure there isn't anything wrong with it. You never know about somebody selling stuff on something like craigslist. There are a lot of shady people out there. If you live fairly close to a frys store, chances are he bought this there for $400. I would avoid the SW115 all together.

Yeah, I have plenty of room in here so I wanted a huge sub. Plus I have two twelves now so I feel like I need to go bigger when I upgrade. One Velodyne is still working but pops on certain tones and it's really annoying.

I was looking at the SVS PB-2000 too but it looks like the HSU is better for less money. This thread is just for the convenience of getting something local this weekend, But it now I feel like I would be better off holding out.

The closest Fry's is 1200 miles away, other wise I would wait for a sale. Not sure how much Best buy or Crutchfield ever discounts them.

If you have been looking at the $800 PB-2000, then you should check out the HSU VTF-3 MK5 HP. It's currently on sale for $862/shipped and is a much more capable sub than the PB-2000 or Klipsch R-115.
