subwoofer recommendation

Looking to spend around $200

Going to be for mainly movies and games. Room is about 11x18 feet.

I was looking between the BASX S8 and the JBL550 as they are both around the same price, but I dont know which would be better.

Looking for other recommendations too.

For your budget get the Bic-f12 sub instead

I was thinking of the BIC F12 too, you think that would be better than the JBL 550?

For $200 or less the F12 is always a popular choice. The Bic RTR-EV1200 is a slight variation of the F12. It's available at rakuten.com via Beach Audio for $177.49. You also get 5% rewards points, which amounts to $8.85. The Jamo J-110 is also still available for $180 on ebay. I would avoid the JBL 550p sealed sub. From what Ive read it doesn't have any real extension advantage over these ported subs and you can bet being sealed it won't have near the output lower in range than the ported subs. I had the JBL sub150p from the older Studio line a few years ago and this 550p looks like it may be using the same 10" PolyPlas driver and 300w/500w amp. Granted the sub150p was ported, but to me it was a very poor performing subwoofer.

Rec Room>Vivitek 1080p projector w/100" screen/Hisense 65" 4K, Onkyo TXNR656, Fluance signature towers & center, AV5 sides, Loft 40 rears, RBH I-12/e x2, I-12 x2 subs. Living Room>Sammy 59" Plasma, Onkyo HTRC560, Klipsch KF28 L/R, KC25 center, Polk RC60i in-wall rears, SVS PB12NSD (x2) subs. PC set up> 27" LG IPS, Onkyo TXNR509, Primus P363's, JBL 550P sub. Master Bedroom>Samsung 42" LED, Pioneer VSX532, Denon 5 spkr set, Jamo J110 sub. Gaming> PS4 (x2), PS3, XBox One (x2), XBox 360

The PL200 pretty much plays down to only 30hz.

"The PL-200 does not have a lot of extension or output and unfortunately the inductance of the driver limits the top end output as the upper bass of the response is greatly rolled off. On a positive note this subwoofer has a good limiter in place which makes it dummy proof and prevents you from blowing it up with too much input signal. Also the distortion performance above tune is quite good even at maximum output, but some vent noise was notable at the highest output levels. In room this unit should extend to 30Hz with useful output. "

I am in a similar situation as the OP with a similar room size. I have a soundbar I'd like to add a sub to for home theater use without spending a fortune. I've seen recent deals on the Jamo J-110, JBL Studio 550p, and the BIC F12. How do these compare for my use? Are these models overkill for my intended use case?
