My brother bought a Sony 2 channel receiver and now wants to set up an external crossover with a sub and 2 speakers. Assuming a 500 dollar budget for all three speakers, what are some good combinations? Assuming a 1000$ budget , what are some better combinations for a sub and 2 speakers? The Sony receiver has 100 watts per channel and is a Sony STR DE185. Thanks for any suggestions

How big is the room?

For about $650, Ascend Acoustics CBM-170 and Hsu STF-1 sub.

For $1K step up to the Ascend CMT-340 with the STF-2 for about $900.

Hopefully this will jumpstart the thread for you.

Sorry.... $500 for L/R and a sub(assume you need powered) is not an easy feat for something that is actually worth recommending.

Check out the Mission 70 series and a small Paradigm sub.
