Thanks. This is the first 3rd party review I've seen.

Good review, but it further complicates my search! This is based on the MkII VTF-3,right?What are the differences between the two?I'm just trying to decide if for my needs it would be worth the extra$100+ fir the vtf-3.(also still waiting on word about the daeva from adire)

Okay, just checked outlaw's page and theres no mention of tunable ports like the vtf has. So,is this one set at max.extension or output level? And is it really more comprable to the STF-3?

This is the best summary I've seen of the differences between the Hsu STF-3 and the Outlaw LFM-1. It may have a mistake or two. link

If you really want to confuse things go take a look at BIC America's subs. BIC makes both Hsu's and Outlaw's subs for them in China. Link.

That is interesting, so how different are the BIC from the above.

That is a very good question. Sizes of the boxes are a little different and supposedly the Hsu and Outlaw subs have higher quality and tighter spec.ed components in them but they all use the Bash amps and the Bic subs have the same waranty as Hsu.

Steve Guttenburg is the one who reviewed this sub for Cnet. He has been reviewing subs for quite some time now, for various magazines, including some high end audio mags. He even wrote a review on the VTF-2 that is on Hsu's website.

In other words, he probably is not the guy from the Policy Academy movies, if that is what anyone was thinking. :D

I noticed some confusion between the offerings of three distict companies: Outlaw, HSU, and BIC.

Speaking for HSU Research ( I work there if you haven't noticed :) ), let's start with BIC. BIC does NOT make our products, and their subwoofers are TOTALLY different. Our manufacturer is another company. They are a far larger company that makes the biggest brands in audio. We are small fry to them.

We ARE working with BICs people on distribution and resource sharing. Their senior staff have incredible experience, and have been in audio longer than I've been alive. Their president, Mr. Bottom, is now our Vice President of Sales and Marketing. They have great creativity, connections, and talent.

As far as Outlaw goes, Dr. Hsu engineered the LFM-1s to Outlaw's criteria for what a subwoofer should be. We engineered our STF-3 to our criteria. Both subwoofers are great, but reflect the criteria of each company.

Sasha, thanks for the explanation.

So, Hsu and BIC are separate companies made up of the same people.
