Wondering if anyone who had one of the original SVSubwoofer's and bought the "improved" driver can give me a hands on review as to whether there was a clear difference with the new driver.

I've had my 20-39 cs passive unit for more than 3 years now and am thinking about dropping the $130 to go with the improved driver. Obviously I'm not at all unhappy about what I've got, but I'm about to go through a significant receiver upgrade to get into 7.1 and started thinking about this upgrade as well.

Any first hand experience or reviews would be great.

Does it have to be an SVS 20-39 cs or can we discuss any sub driver upgrade in your thread?

No matter where you go. ... There you are.

I did it for my 20-39CS. It increases the capability in the 20-25hz range by about 2-3db and greatly reduces the tendency to bottom out when pushed too far. The sound of the improved driver is fuller where the original had a slightly lean sound in the 30-50hz range. Lots of people still want the old driver, I've been offered the same $60 that SVS offered by others after the fact. If you can get that it makes the upgrade a no-brainer.

I wonder what SVS does with all of those 'old' drivers?

Well SVS won't do anything with mine as they were only taking the old units back for a very limited window 3 years ago when they first came out with the "improved" unit.

I did not take advantage of their buy back plan at that time as I had just purchased my unit and didn't think the wife was going to go for me dropping more money when I had just bought the darn thing.

I installed the new unit a few days ago and it definitely is a stronger woofer. This size and weight of the magnet appeared to be at least 33% larger than the original. It was worth the upgrade dollars spent. The wife claims not to notice a difference, but what does she know.

The original driver will likely make it's way to ebay shortly. Anyone interested?
