Interested in the 'upgrades' made to the fathom v2.

Anyone know when these will be out?

The Fathom v2's are scheduled for April 2015 delivery (v1's will be available until then)

What will change and what won't?

Dimensions and cosmetics are unchanged, other than a rearrangement of the rear panel connections.

We have made some slight tweaks to some of the drivers, mostly suspension-related.

The electronics have been completely redesigned:
20% more amplifier power
All-DSP processing, including 18-Band Digital ARO (automatic room optimization). Feature set is the same as the v1's.

US MSRP will increase $200 on single driver models, $300 on f212.

Best regards,

Manville Smith

Would there be any issues pairing the V2 F112 with the V1 F112?

There shouldn't be any problem doing that.

Manville

I know the first reaction might be no, but how about an upgrade kit for V1 owners? Not the new amplification necessarily, but the control module, so we can get the new multi point EQ?

Gives your dealers a good reason to contact customers too!

PUH-LEASE!

Thanks

Just stick an Anti-Mode 8033 on it and you're good to go - I get phenomenal results on my pair of F112s.

Props to JL for this upgrade, it's a great idea.

Great suggestion Thrang!!!

One would hope JL has made these parts interchangeable between the v1 and v2 series.

Yeah far better to have external unit. I mean if you bought a Velodyne HGS-18 that has built in EQ. But a few years later, antimode have improved their EQ system, so you're stuck with HGS-18 with built in EQ - granted you can disable it but you've paid for it and not using it. But with an external sub EQ box, just change it every few years.

Even the new Antimode is much improved over the very first version, from startup pops, to number of filters

Krell Evolution 900e x 7

Bose Jewel speakers.

Jealous of my speakers?

Indeed, their solution to bass correction is widely praised. I still have a first-gen 8033C, and boy are those thumps scary through the Fathoms. Anyway, I doubt you could do much better, especially considering the fairly reasonable price (I'd expect a mod from JL would be significantly more costly). Plus, its such a tiny unit, it can be tucked out of sight very easily.

Thanks, (I suspect) at least in part, to my needling, they now even offer an (unfortunately, overpriced) XLR adapter to take advantage of the dual phase outputs for long cable runs. Years ago, the NA distributor was completely puzzled as to why I was asking for such a thing - amazing how clueless some audio sales people are. Barry Ober got it right away and just gave me a wiring diagram for DIY (though he was doubtful that there was much to be gained in this approach).

Unfortunately, that is not really possible. The v2 electronics are completely different and the digital processing is built into the main amplifier board. You really can't just "plug-in" the new processor to replace a v1's processor.

Come on now Manville, they look identical... You're saying the EQ brains are not on the control board? with all the other audio circuitry? I would think the point of this upgrade is to minimize retooling costs...lift, clean and replace in honor of the Ryder Cup...

Yes, while it may look and feel identical on the outside, the control board is now just a "dumb" control board. It connects digitally to the main board to communicate switch and control positions. The DSP and all the audio stuff are located on the main amplifier board now. Mechanically, there are a lot of internal changes as well. These were aimed at improving manufacturability and assembly precision.

Around the $320 mark. Being in AUSTRALIA our voltage hits around 245v to 254 so he replaced them with more durable capacitors.

What's this madness? New v2 Fathoms? I need to check this thread more frequently. I'm still gonna slum it with my pair o' v1 f113's.

Congrats on getting your Fathom back, Franin.

Agree. Now I wouldn't be opposed if msmith_JL wanted to give me a couple v2's to put through their paces in a real world environment. See how they play with the v1's.

I know this is a loaded question, but as a current F212 owner - how much benefit will I get for going to v2? Also, I would like to get a second F212 at some point - if that ever becomes the case I will probably have to sell the v1 and just get two v2s? Power and output is not what I am after - I barely use the volume knob on the F212 now...

Thanks.

Better to have the pair match. If you could strech for the v1 before they are discontinued I would do that otherwise just sell the v1 when you are ready and get a pair of v2. The difference will be worth it!
