Yeah no worries here. They should replace the sub or send you a new driver without any charge.

I thought they had limiters on their amps to prevent the driver from being over driven? The first time I noticed it the driver excursion was pretty intense, so I bet something detached in the back...
They have -- I've been told that when the VC former detaches from the cone, this is a (rare) manufacturing problem, not necessarily caused by the sub being overdriven or bottoming out. In my case, I noticed the problem first when playing at relatively low levels. SVS drivers are made to sustain very large excursion without problem -- it's pretty impressive.

Good luck!

Thanks! I emailed them and asked if I should pull the driver out and inspect. The sound is more like a weird chirping sound than a rattle.. but when bass notes that vibrate play it did sound like a chirpy rattle.. I'll let you all know what happens.

Yessss...my SB13ultra should be at my doors tomorrow, sooner than i thought . So today i have disconnected one of my sb12nsd and delivered it to my brother...i have just tested how it sounds with just one sub and i can hear that something is missing...it is just weird...far less impact and it seems like there is a hole in my soundstage and everything sounds like is weighted to the side where the sub is...it really is that once you go dual you just cant get back to one sub...anyone who is tempted to get a second sub just get it if you can it is really is a big difference in soundstage...so i hope i really hope that sb12 and sb13 ultra will be good friends in my room because i just dont want to get another ultra and have 3k EUR just in subs no way...hope it will work well...i have a good filling as i dont listen louder than -15 or -10 occassionally and i didnt hit limiter with both sb12...but i will see...fingers crossed

I replaced my SB12 (just one) in a 3600 cu ft room with a SB13 about a month ago. You're not going to believe the difference.

yes I remember when I tried my NSD by itself. Wasn't what I thought a $750 subwoofer would sound like. But as soon as I paired it with my Klipsch. WOAH BOY!

Nope, just the one so can't give you any idea how they'll do together. FWIW I always loved the SB12 but the room was just a little too large for it so I finally said what the hey and got the SB13. Love it

I think they migth work well together...sure the ultra will have more output but i think the sb12 will smooth the response and even the weight of the sub on frontstage. If they wont work well together i can always sell the sb12 but i have a feeling that wont be neccessary...better 2 than 1 and they are both sealed...i have audyssey xt32 with subeq HT so that will help a lot too

An SB13 and SB12 will sound amazing together with XT32. I have a 12NSD and RW12d with XT32 and it does a great job smoothing it out. Those 2 are so far apart in what they do.

I just took one ultra out of my 2.2 system. I am loving it right now.

What you got back home, little sister, to play your fuzzy warbles on? I bet you got little save pitiful, portable picnic players. Come with uncle and hear all proper! Hear angel trumpets and devil trombones. You are invited.

How about a SB Ultra 13 and SB12+ The only REQ is antimode 8033cinema. So it won't EQ individually just as a whole. 800 cut foot room. So tiny, I bet I don't run out of headroom on SB12+ alone

I thought about running a SB2000 with my SB13 Ultra to give me that little extra push and save a few bucks besides. I just wonder if the 2000 will have to be turned way down so it doesn't run out of gas when I'm pushing it hard. Guess I could contact SVS and see what they say. I would also run the 2000 nearfield maybe on the side of couch.

I think the SB2000 would be perfect with the SB13. They both seem to go down to a similar frequency. I'm guessing the 13 is just that much more powerful all the way through?

It would add just that little extra punch, you might love it! See with mine one goes down to 19 and the other only to 26 so the NSD has to handle the real lows by itself. But I like it that way, it's cheap. And I get lows, plus punchy mid bass.

I will report how sb13 and sb12 work together...but i wont have it calibrated till next week probably (with audyssey). My room is around 1600 cubic feet and 2xsb12 were runing 6db hot (with audyssey ref. level offset at -10-because of surround boost) and i havent seen any limiter light turning on during heavy bass scenes at -10 on master volume...i have subs around 9-10 feet from listening position so nearfiled would be awesome...two subs are really the way to go . But beware once you go dual there is no turning back...you have a filing that something is missing in soundstage with only one sub runing when you taste dual subs

I dont know why in Europe the warranty is 2 years on electronics and 5 years on the driver...while in the USA there is 5 years unconditional waranty??? And on top of that the subs are much costlier in Europe...i hope the ultra amp will work at least 5 years...

I'm also originaly from Europe and warranty in different not just for SVS. I guess it is because EU rules. Europe have 2 year on every electronics compare only 1 year in US( TV, smart phones, washer , all electronics) and alll electronics , clothes ,cars cost more in Europe then in US always was like that and I don't think it will change anytime soon it is getting better compare 10years back but still is Europe more expensive. When I bought mine 1 HDTV 60" Sony price here in US was $3500 and in Czech same TV cost $6000 8 years ago.
And biggest different is a gas prices it is always funny to listen people complain about US gas prices IT IS SO CHEAP in US!!! $3.10per gallon in SC and $6.5 per gallon in Czech ( Prague)
Sorry out of SVS topic but I had to say it .

P.S. Don't worry about SVS warranty they are extremly helpful and I talk to them about warranty out of US and Ed from SVS told me they taking care of it from here so just in case something get wrong you will directly contact SVS in US and they will help you out. I will be not surprice if they help people even after warranty with low or no cost, they just have one of the best customer service I ever had to change to deal it!!!

It is so cool to see SVS sub in Slovenia, have fun with it as I know you will !!!!

I ordered a PB-2000 and received notice that it should arrive Monday. I was hoping it would be here for the weekend; the waiting is the hardest part! (Regards to Tom Petty).

My Paradigm PDR10 abruptly developed a rattle a few days back and so it was time to replace it. I initially went to the "Budget Sub" thread but after a couple of questions there and some advice which sparked further reading here at AVS and elsewhere, I decided I really would be better off with more sub. I'm really impressed with what I've read about SVS, their products and policies and even had a brief online chat with Ed, who agreed with their Merlin app that it should be a good match for my Polk Monitor 60s.

Despite being in a large great room, I had been pretty happy with what that little PDR, so I'm looking forward to this step up. With SVS return and upgrade policies, I don't see I have much to lose in going for this particular sub. Not looking to rattle the walls but I do miss the lows even the old unit provided. I suppose another positive is I did re-position my fronts and have them sounding better than they did previously too; I'll re-run my basic Audyssey when I get a chance.

Congrats on the new sub! I know you said your not looking to rattle the walls, but a little rattling can't hurt right? I have the same sub and during some movies it does a fine job of just that. Hope to hear how your's turns out once it is set up.

Enjoy

Last night I was able to hook up my new PB-2000. I'm integrating it into my system that currently has another, less powerful sub. I did re-run Audyssey and things sound great so far. Still want to do some measurements with REW to make sure I have them optimally set up together. Very impressed with this sub so far though.

Sooooooo it finaly arrived This will be a little longer post sorry but i am so excited I have unpacked the sub and put it in the right corner (this thing is really built like a tank period) and left the sb12 in left. The sb12 looks like a dwarf in comparison and i cant image what pb13 looks loks like... I have taken just one measurement with audyssey just to level it with the sb12 (when my wife and son go to sleep i will take all 8 measurements)...the gain on sb13 ultra is at -20 and audyssey calibrated it at -9. I have put ref. level offset at -10 (i dont like surround boost) and set both subs 6 db hot...and OMG...the first thing i have noticed is that it SLAMS LIKE A HAMMER, this sub rocks..it just sculptured every detail from everything you throw at it it is just incredible!!! I can now actually feel the shaking and slams in movies...i had it at -18 master level and i am affraid to put it higher, for now ...for a few hours i will let it settle at normal listening levels before i crank it up...but it handels my room with such an ease that this is just crazy and i think it will never be at the limit...this is the sub i will sure have it for a long years to come...if i knew that it ROCKS like that i would never bother buying 2xsb12nsd i would just buy ultra and be done with upgraditis for a while but i think that sb12 also helps to even the response so the one sb12 will stay. Now i know why everyone who got ultra said that he will watch all the movies again it is just INCREDIBLE!!! Oh damn now i wonder how two of this beast sounds like

SVS have replied to my question regarding SB Ultra 13 and SB12+. Basically said not a good idea.

Quote:
I have a SB Ultra 13 in the home theatre, in a 800 cu foot room (small room)

I have a SB12+ that's in the Hifi, that for music probably isn't needed as I get all the bass I need from Celestion A1 (again similar sized room)

I'm thinking about putting the 12 in the home theatre as well as the 13. Would you recommend this?

[Ed Mullen] It can be made to work, but they two subs have rather different phase responses. Another SB13U would be a better choice.

Also would you recommend putting the 12 ontop of the 13?

[Ed Mullen] No - they would have distinct cancellation at certain frequencies due to the differences in phase response.

The 13 is to the right of the TV. I could place the 12 to the left. I don't think I would run out of headroom in such a small room even with the 12" so I don't think drive 12 to it's limits

Would "lop sided" bass from two different subs be a issue if I put one either side of the TV?

[Ed Mullen] Yes more than likely. It would add bass - but it wouldn't be optimal.

Which is better in my setup stacking or either side of the TV?

[Ed Mullen] No - avoid stacking.

The only REQ I have is a 8033 cinema. I know both subs have 1 or 2 channels of PEQ however I have no way to accurately measure response.

Getting dual 13" in such a small room is probably over the top

[Ed Mullen] Properly calibrated, dual SB13U would not overpower the room - they would just result in smoother bass at more locations.

Huh I thought you made a typo, I was not aware that the SB12-Plus once was an actual SVS model.

Would it be the model that is on SonicBoomAudio's front page by any chance?

Well does that mean that mixing a sb12 and sb13ultra is not a good idea either? Now that i have calibrated the system it sounds good but the ultra is very powerful and rumbles all the time while the sb12 not despite they being calibrated to the same level...guess the ultra extends much lower no wonder that everything is shaking i think i will have to ask that question to svs too about mixing my subs...

You have individual and totalled subwoofer EQ though. If I were to have the two, one sub would diasy chain off the next one.

Well i have done some tests with music and movies with both subs...sb13ultra and sb12nsd and i can tell you that there is a difference using just sb13 or using both. The sb12 adds enough punch and overall volume and fullness of the sound that it sounds awesome with both subs...i can feel the more balanced and fuller sound using both subs and that was immediately noticed as i turned a sb12 on. I have one sub in left and one in the right corner and they are apart approximately 11 ffet. So my final decision isabsolutely to use both...they are a good match and sb12nsd adds that impact and fullness of sound of having two subs :-D now i am going to watch a movie and enyoy both subs as it sound awesome especially because of having ultra in the mix it is the sound that i allways wanted it is such a great sub :-D
