Hi Wright,

Just a few thoughts if SVS can't help you with a replacement amp... Those two capacitors may be connected in parallel. If that's the case and you can get to the bottom of the board you could try just removing the failed one and see if the fuse still blows. If it doesn't your PC13 might still work at lower output levels. It wouldn't have the reserve capacity to hit high level peaks but might be loud enough to use while you save up for a new unit. Its free to try and If it were my unit that's what I'd try.

[Edit added] If the removal of the capacitor works then I'd try to find a replacement part and install it or have it installed.

Another option, if you have any kind of repair shops available, you could take in the amp and get a quote to replace the cap. If its cheap enough you do that and see if it works. Unfortunately labor will likely be the main cost driver and may not be worth it because if that didn't work you just ate the cost.

Another option if I had the money and it fit is buying a new BASH amp. Parts Express has a 300 watt RMS and a 500 Watt RMS unit: http://www.parts-express.com/bash-500s-digital-subwoofer-plate-amplifier-500w-rms--300-752#lblProductDetails

The 500 Watt BASH from PE:

• Dimensions: 12" W x 8" H x 3-1/2" D
• Cabinet cutout: 11" x 7"

The 300 Watt unit:

• Dimensions: 11" W x 7" H x 4" D
• Cabinet cutout: 10" x 6-1/4"

There may be other amps available but I'll leave that up to you

Hey Gang,

Looking for opinions.

I currently run a PB-2000/1000 combination in my main setup which is excellent. I have a second setup in my upstairs loft where I would like to move the PB-1000 to replace a smaller/inferior sub. As a replacement for the PB-1000, I am considering picking up the PB12 - Plus to pair with my PB-2000 or create a matched pairing with another PB-2000.

PB12-Plus or PB-2000?

BTW - the Utra was a consideration, but just to much to swallow in cost at this time.

Fire away...

Thanks.

PB-2000 ... the tonality or timbre and power profile will be the same as your current sub.

Official SVS Owners/Support Thread.

Finally got her hooked up. Very easy, set at recommended settings, low pass filter to LFE, phase to 0, gain to 11 o'clock, and crossover on AVR at 120Hz. Extremely clean bass, total opposite of my boomy accoustech h-100. Watching I Robot now and curious why I'm not hearing bass and then it kicks in. I became so use to the boominess of the previous sub, it will take a while to get use to the clean mid ranges and low extension of the PC-2000. Will run Audyssey tomorrow.

Thanks...yes, BDI Ola. Very solid cabinet. Still have some work to do in the room since moving in several months ago. My next purchase is SVS prime bookshelf speakers and center.

BASH Amp replacement

Greetings,

It look like the BASH Amp in my PB13 Ultra has failed. Woke up this morning to no power light or response from the sub. I tried replacing the fuse to no avail. I have an e-mail into SVS. Anyone know the cost of the Sledge STA-1000D?

Thanks in advance!

Questions for you all.

Attached is a photo of my setup. (single SB-2000)

I'm toying with ordering a 2nd SB2000 - the only real way that would work in my room aesthetically, is to have both SB2000s inside either RF-7II. They would fit perfectly with room to spare.

However, I did some experimenting and moved my SB2000 to the inside of my right RF-7 and I would say I lost roughly 2-3 db of output. I moved it back and forth probably 4 times and played consistent source material each time. The SB2000 loves that right corner.

SVS said a 2nd SB2000 would add 4-6db of output to my current single SB2000. My question is, would it be worth it to get the 2nd SB2000 knowing I'd only net a few db more? (I talked to SVS BEFORE I did this little experiment) I had a tough time telling if the bass was anymore/any less accurate NOT in the corner. I did notice a slight improvement to my front stage/image having the sub tucked inside the RF-7 as opposed to the corner.

Any thoughts? I know I can just order another SB2000 and test it all myself without worry of being stuck with anything - and that's what I may have to do. Just thought I'd throw this out for any input.

Thanks.

Sorry to hear of the PB13U failure. I seem to recall reading somewhere in these threads that the cost of the Sledge amp was in the neighborhood of $700...but that was sometime ago.

Thanks.

Brahmzy:

Getting a second sub would be a boon for the bass response in your room. The bass will be evenly distributed in your theater, regardless of where you were sitting.

Now, the trick to having dual subs is to get them to play as 1 virtual sub and that involves time/phase aligning the subs with respect to each other and to match their output levels. If you don't have Audyssey or an SVS EQ1, then you can use the procedure below to integrate the subs into your room.

1. Set each individual sub to measure 72-73dB using pink noise at your MLP for a combined reading of about 75 - 76dB. You'll need an SPL meter of some type located at the MLP.

2. Set the phase knob of Subs 1 and 2 to 0 degrees and start playing pink noise in both speakers.

3. Adjust the phase knob of Sub 2 from zero until your SPL meter reads its maximum value. Now the subs are time aligned. meaning the launch waves from the subs will not cancel out each other but re-enforce one another at all frequencies the subs are meant to handle.

4. Enter the average distance of the subs to your MLP into your AVR bass management setup screen and set the crossover to 80Hz as a safe default. I presume your mains
can go lower than this. The rule of thumb is to set the subs crossover a decade higher than the stated low end frequency response of your mains by the manufacturer. Fro example, if they are rated to 30Hz, then set the crossover to at least 60Hz.

The above steps might seem 'complex' but its a fairly quick process as they takes less than 10 minutes to perform.

Have fun... its definitely worth it.

Thanks,
David

PS
If you don't have easy access to pink noise from your AVR or otherwise, tune to an unused FM radio-station channel that plays white noise or makes 'Sssshhhhh 'sounds and use that as your test signal.
