Hi JC,

I don't want to preempt the other poster, but since I am on the forum right now...

I had Pluses before I upgraded to Ultras. In theory, there is only about a 3db difference between the two PB models, but it seemed like a little more than that to me (4db maybe?). The Ultras play a little lower than the Pluses, which I like, and they obviously play louder. That was important in my large room, as my three Pluses were struggling with the bass boost I was using. The Ultras immediately did much better. They might also be a touch smoother sounding too, but that could be because I was pushing the Pluses a little more than they liked.

A 3db difference in SPL is equivalent to a 30% increase in perceived volume. Two subs would have a 60% minimum increase in SPL, at all frequencies, with lower extension. But, that additional SPL is really only useful to you, IMO, if you are already using most, or all, of your available headroom. What I found was that more low frequency SPL only whetted my appetite for more low frequency SPL.

Others may want to chime in with different impressions of the two subs. To me, the difference was pretty significant, but with less bass boost, it probably wouldn't have been as noticeable. I hope that helps.
