The bass in U571 isn't terribly low, most is the 30-40Hz range. It's the volume and steady barrage of LFE during the depth charge scene the gets everyone all riled up.

Pulse ch15 and Running Scared ch8 have got to the lowest, loudest, longest LFE scenes I've found. Played those last night at -5 of reference, now that's crazy bass.

I really enjoy keeping an eye on this thread. After all the discussion surrounding WOTW I bought a copy & watched an 1 hour or so last night - wow, was blown away, some of the best bass I've heard. At 1030pm the wife stuck her head in the lounge room & said "give it a rest people can't sleep when the walls are shaking". priceless

Anyway if we get too scientific about exactly what qualifies as "bass" we would loose the freedom & enjoyment to discuss this subject & that would be a shame.

Here is an list from my homecinema which illustrates differences in max SPL among DVDs - but do they all qualify to be on The BASS List?

All played at same level MV -20dB

1. Finding Nemo, scene 25 - 115db
2. Minority Report, scene 9 - 124db
3. I, robot, scene 18 - 118 db
4. We Were Soldiers, scene 14 - 112db
5. DareDevil, scene 8 - 117db
6. Star Wars I, The Phantom Menace - scene 19-22 - 120db
7. Star Wars II, Attack of the Clones - scene 3 - 120db
8. LOTR - The Return Of The King - The Battle of the Pelennor Fields, scene 37 - 123db

We Were Soldiers is most impressive with its gunfight - M60? rather than dropping those bombs. overall performance: NOT qualified for this list.

Star Wars III, Revenge Of The Sith has an impressive 14Hz? - in a short scene - but how many can confirm this? - overall performance: NOT qualified for this list.

i've also heard some "rumblings" about 300

I had my volume at -37 which is not where I usually listing to movies at its morel like -27... and omfg the bass is insane in that scene especially, I did hear a slapping noise coming from where my sub was so I just turned off the dvd..

Today while watching eragon I heard the slapping again.. So I decide to try and figure out if it was the sub and after playing some bass mechanic music cd I had found out the door next to my sub is making the slapping sounds and the back wall is also making slapping sounds and the door is screwed shut it has nothing on either side so it must be a brace inside the door and the framing on the back wall making the slapping sounds.

Time to rent pulse now

their should also be a warning

Playing these movies might cause houses to crumble

I third that. That was the scene I was referring to. at 20mins, deep continuous bass that seems to rumble on for several minutes. Very impressive even with my lil 10" sub.

Well, with Aliens and Alien 4 I have at least one co-conspirator.

Yentl? I thought it has a -5Hz rumble running though the entire movie, most impressive!!

BTW, I did order the newer 5.1 Animusic I and II. The animation should be nice, heavy bass or not.

i can't even fully enjoy the pulse scene because of "room noises". i have a door the rattles even with me leaning against it pretty hard, LOL

the pulse scene is just insane

That's fine as long as you don't damage the sub first. A word for the wise: Pulse offers some really strong deep sustained bass and even the most robust subs, if played at high output levels, can go by by.
