If you were disappointed in Transformers for LFE, you need to buy yourself a new subwoofer! That had crazy amounts of deep bass throughout the whole movie, look up 6 posts, it had 18 scenes with Bass.

True. But the output levels when compared to other movies like WOTW, The Incredibles, Pulse, Sky Captain etc.... weren't as hot.

I'll agree, as I have two kids under the age of 2 and have watched the Incredibles, All Pixar movies, Skrek, etc.

When you listen at good levels (-35 on my Yammy w/PC13U) it was room shaking bass.

I wasn't disappointed, just not satisfied.
I've got a good sub
I know the 18 scenes, since I posted all those timestamps and waterfalls.

My disappointment was based on:

1: THe LFE was nowhere near what has been hyped in the DTS version..

2) THe waterfall charts alone showed it wasn't that great..little above -20 Db

CAN ANYONE POST the waterfall to the demolecularization of Sandman in SM3 (the ref. level hit)??

Captivity. Great sound effects and lots of solid scary bass. I wish more DVD's were in DTS ES.

ANYONE seen `Solar Attack'?? A cheezy, cheap `end of the world' type of movie but it has good 20-50 Hz bass throughout! A $2M budget can only go so far. Only 5.1 `Digital stereo' whatever that is!

NOT recommended but it does have a ton of bass !

I see in these lists of DVD's with great bass/LFE.. some mention specific frequencies of 5 Hz, 8 Hz, 20 Hz etc...but how are people determining what these frequencies are? I've googled around for "sound frequency meters" and have come up with nothing.

On the side, I was watching Spider-Man 3 last night (2-Disc DVD version) and there was one section during the demolecularization of Sandman mentioned in a previous post is probably the strongest and extended (4-5 seconds) bass I've ever heard in a DVD. And I don't even have a sub yet (the bass is pouring out of my pair of Boston VR2 floor fronts). Will compare it to SM2 "Tridium" scene..but from memory this scene in SM3 is even stronger.

Thanks

Sorry for being a newbie, I am still learning about all the info on LFE's, bass, subwoofers, etc, but when people mention heavy bass in a certain section speaking of, e.g. "When you listen at good levels (-35 on my Yammy w/PC13U) it was room shaking bass." .. where is this level shown? I am assuming you mean -35dB .. is that the "frequency response"? Is that describing how high you have the subwoofer turned up in your receiver or what? Thanks for an explanation and/or a link or two of website talking about this. Thanks.

These are in room measurements, can't read off the disc for some reason.

What test equipment do you/are you using to determine the frequencies?

What TV you getting? Nice to hear your coming along.

I'm getting a 1080p 47" Westinghouse later this week, with the XBOX HD-DVD drive.

Does "Ratatouille" have any worth while scenes?

it had plenty of bass in the theatre..that's for sure..
My top 3 would be:
Panasonic
Samsung
Sony/Sharp

Wife loved the 50" 1080P Panny in the little ht booth @ BB but that's wayyy too high...I could do my whole 5.1 setup for that..she did like having a surround spkr behind her head on a stand but that is definately down the road a bit...unfortunately.

well 6 months ago I could get a 50" Panny for under $1,400..must've been last year's model because I can't find one in that range now...unless it's online and I'm NOT risking it getting damaged or stolen by UPS,etc!

I was set for over 18 months for a projector purchase but mywife shot that option down. Her cash is getting it all and she's making sure I remember that.

It can be still damaged if you buy in store, its gotta take the same truck or plane as if it went direct to your house.

Is it just me or does the Dolby Digital in Transformers show that it is sub par between 1:59:04 and 1:59:07 in the standard DVD? The girl says "I am really glad I got in the car". The audio totally craps out with all kinds of crackling even at low volume levels. Did anyone else notice this? Does the HD-DVD DD+ exhibit the same affect?

I watched the standard version and it was fine. You may have received a faulty DVD. If you purchased it, I would exchange it for another one.

I'm just curious .. -35 is about how loud in terms of decibels on your system?

You can always import the region 2 to your shores just in the same way most Brits have for the past several years. The region 2 DVD is a firecracker, thou if you want it with audio commentary that’s only available on the front cover design that you see in front of you. The two disc version DIE HARD 4.0 doesn’t included the commentary track.

Another Bass sub bass LFE.1 blaster is, Thunderbirds Are Go! (2004) this one packs a delightful punch for thunderbirds fans and kids alike.

The launch of thunderbird 5, chapter 4, 22m:33s “check retros” “Go” Kaboom a nice deep low will pound you with a good decent sub. Go to maximum thrust, with a combination of three-screen low end and LFE.1 working together.

Watch the specific scene that I referenced. 1:59:03 through 1:59:07. You will see what I mean. I just wonder if it occurs on the HD-DVD.
