I have been excited about the prospects of a Submersive XL for quite awhile. From what I have picked up it appears to be the same design as a Submersive except it will have dual opposed 18 inchers. I thought you would all be interested to see this was just posted on the official SubMersive XL/2 Forum over at Seaton Sound....

Moving along nicely, and will be happening, but we are not taking any orders or deposits until they are ready to ship. Feel free to e-mail us at sales@seatonsound.net asking to be put on an e-mail notify list to be notified first when they are available for order.

Now this should not keep you from getting a normal HP+ if you are waiting for the XL/2 as this post could mean they are coming next week, next year, next couple of years - who knows. I don't mind this as I know Mr. Seaton is taking his time to make sure he gets it right the first time. Just FYI.

Can't wait to see the XL. I think it will be a good move by Mark, with 18" and larger drivers all the rage these days.

A SubMersive on steroids, now that is something to get excited about!

I'm excited as well. I already have 2 Submersive HP's and don't really NEED them, but if they fit in my space, sound just as good, tight and punchy as my HP's, and have significantly more output, I'd be very tempted. I wonder if you can mix them with the regular HP's in a room and have them play nice with each other.

"NEED"? That's blasphemy!! No one NEEDS the kind of subs Mark builds. I have a friend who just added two Terraform XL's to his dual HP's! Did he need them? Nope. Can he get the smile off his face? NOPE!

If I were not on a second floor, I would get some Terraforms and add them to my 4 HP's. There is no such thing as too much woofage!!

You're absolutely right, I don't know what came over me. I've been away from here too long!

I read about that! Those are INSANE! I would love them, but they simply won't fit in my room. Right now, my room is the limiting factor of my system, not any of the components in them. I need a bigger/better room and to get that, I'm gonna have to move. One day soon, hopefully.

Can anyone who upgraded from the original Seaton Sound Submersive with the 1000W ice amp to the HP with the 2400W amp comment on what the upgrade did for the sound?

It depends on your room size and listening levels. I upgrade all 4 of mine and the difference (for me) was worth every penny of it. I know a bunch of others have done the upgrade and I don't recall anyone saying they thought they wasted their money!!

I listen to non-action movies at maybe 15 to 20 below reference and 5 below reference for action movies where I want to smile a lot !!

My room is about 3400cf

Thank you for your thoughts audioguy. My room is not big, approximately 30 square metres, but I play all my movies at reference level. I have two Submersives and I have to admit that just the idea of getting 2400W driving each sub is an exciting thought.

Is it normal for the amp to get quite warm when the sub is on but not playing anything? I was playing some pretty undemanding content in terms of low frequencies and then left the sub on, but not playing anything, for a further hour or so. When I returned it seemed the amp was pretty warm, warmer than when it was in use earlier.

Mine is never switched off and is always 'pleasantly warm' to the touch when it's not playing anything. I guess how hot it gets in use will depend on how hard you work it - in my small room, the 6,000 watt amp (master/slave F2s) doesn’t have to work too hard to get Reference level bass. In a bigger room it will have to work more so will get hotter.

My F2 was certainly not so hot that it was unpleasant to touch. As I mentioned, it wasn't working that hard when it was in use but I was just a little surprised that later, after being on for while but not playing anything, it was still quite warm, in fact, seemingly even warmer. Anyway, I'm not really concerned about it - from what you posted, it doesn't appear to be behaving too unusually. Thanks.
