I am confused...

the SVS site says it uses Multi EQ of some form.

Why is it worth such a large price if you have a reciever with that Audyssey in it?

Because it handles multiple subs and has higher resolution filtering in the bass than does the MultEQ. Works well.

For some people (multipe sub owners, and others...) it is a great value.

For others, not.

As SVS themselves note (link):

"It's also not a box you need if you are blessed with perfect room response already. Nearly no rooms are, but it happens. If you measure adequately flat bass, you might leave well enough alone. And of course, we don't recommend people buy an $800 bass-correction solution to use with mediocre subs either. If you have a sub that's not powerful enough or deep enough for your needs, it makes sense to upgrade there first naturally."

Read the SVS news post.
It is very informative.

Shipping Monday, so some of us should have it soon. Hopefully my new sub also arrives and I don't kill myself moving it in.

Adam:

I haven't seen anyone really comment about running the AS-EQ1, THEN upping the bass level to "bass addict" level. I have run MultiEQ and seen how it guts my bass level. Then I just go into the pre/pro and up the sub level and all is well again. So, can you give a nice boost to the sub level in your pre/pro post -processing and retain all the goodness from the AS-EQ1? In other words, can you move that ruler flat curve up 5 or 10 db and still sound great?

You can do what you like with it but you may find you don't actually need to. I have always favoured a room curve but after hearing something truly flat I just don't need to boost it further. It sounds so full, textured and with plenty of slam where you need it. A boost will simply cloud the mid range and I highly recomend trying it flat and level before boosting away as you may not need to tweak as much as you might have thought.

Btw the graphs displayed by the software are 2d and averaged over a large area so are practically meaningless as a way of judging what what you will experience in any individual position.

Great write-up there. No need for me to wait for other reviews.

Check out the hardware reviews on AVForums for the 8033 review. Russell will shortly be reviewing the AS-EQ1 which will be interesting. If I had to make a guess based on what I have seen then I would guess the AS would benefit people with dips better than the 8033 as the AS does boost whereas the 8033 apparently does not.

As I said just a guess though.

adam, thanks for the response and pointing me in the direction of the review... i currently have an 8033, and i'm real pleased with it... but (like i said), i also have the as-eq1 on pre-order... it's more curiosity than anything else, since in all likelihood, i'll find out myself come the end of the summer...

thanks again.
