I really, really like how they look now and as an added bonus it even improved my bass response! It's improved in my seating area and throughout the whole room, even into the kitchen and side room. It sounds great now (not that it didn't before). Audyssey trimmed it back a couple more db's than where it was previously after I calibrated again.

Even though we didn't really find the solution, Kevin was awesome. He called me back a little later in the day with what he had. Thanks Kevin!
You might try a black marker, like a Sharpie, to color it.

That is very interesting, I'm really surprised laying them on their side made a difference in sound quality. I wish I had the room to try it, but unfortunately I don't think I do. Care to go into more detail on how the bass changed?

It's not night and day. I also put a lot of time into trying different configurations (both ports on the outside, both ports on the inside, one inside and one on the outside, etc.) It very well could be just from changing the positions, and I think it is, because they're not oriented the same way at all.

I have a little bit more headroom (Audyssey trimmed them back 2 more db from where they were) and it just seems smoother. Placebo because I'm all jazzed about how they look? Maybe. But room correction did trim them back some more so...

Sub placement can be funny. Sometimes just moving one 6" or a foot either way can make a big difference. They've definitely been moved from the original layout. Both in distance apart and in height.

I've come up with a solution that I'm satisfied with for now. My wife found an old black shirt that she doesn't wear any more. The cloth used to make it has a similar pattern as the cloth on the grille. Even better when I stretched the strips of fabric a little, strips I cut by laying a chunk of the shirt so it was lined up with the grain of the fabric of the grilles.

I took a few pics to document my progress.

I made the strips a little big, so when the glue dries I can trim some off if necessary. Just used plain old elmer's glue and only applied a little bit to the residue that was left on the speaker. I tried coloring the residue in with a sharpie. It's in one of the pics. As you can see it was a no go. The last one is from where I sit. Pretty much invisible with the blinds closed on the sliding glass door to the left of the left speaker. Not perfect though. When the blinds are open you can see the patch on the one on the left. *twitch*

When it dries I'll trim off any excess cloth and see if I can do something to make it blend better. I'm decently happy with it and there was no permanent damage done and I didn't spill any glue. It's better than the glue, for sure.

Here's the culprit responsible for the hair in the one pic... Misty. She's my baby. Follows me everywhere.

Awesome! Looks great.

One more week till AXPONA. If you're planning on going, feel free to bring in an audio track that you would like to listen to.

I had a chance to pick up Arrival 4k. Excellent soundtrack and mixing. Any other movies you folks are enjoying?

I haven't had an opportunity to check it out in 4k yet, but did watch the blu ray. Great movie.

I thought the Arrival UHD HDR DTS-HD MA 7.1 disk looked and sounded wonderful. Some have complained that the images were excessively dark. I didn't think so but that's a discussion for another thread.

I almost didn't buy the disk because it didn't have a TrueHD Atmos soundtrack but ended up happy that I did buy it. The audiotrack has a lot of wonderful surround effects and the LFE is demonstration quality.

Yea, I hear ya. I wasn't too bothered by the darker, more muted tones. In many cases that could actually help in adding to the feel/tone of the movie. I know Zack Snyder is probably the most heavily criticized for the use of muted tones, but as you stated, that discussion is for another thread.

That would be nice! Unfortunately, we haven't quite made the jump to that yet. I only have a 4k setup in my home.

Yea that's a great scene. A lot of low 20 Hz bass. We used that quite a bit on our demos at various shows.

I just bought a Blu Ray copy of Interstellar on ebay for 6 bucks. I liked it and I keep hearing about that wormhole scene. I gotta watch it again and 6 bucks was hard to pass up.

That scene actually gets pretty uncomfortable if I crank it up loud enough. My set up is in the basement and it'll easily rattle stuff up on the main and 2nd floors. It's awesome!

Had a few inquiries about show pricing. For AXPONA attenders, we will have special pricing for some of our subs.
