**** UPDATE HERE....PLEASE READ ****
after a couple of months of delay, the time has come for the promised Field trip to the JL facilities in Pembroke Pines, Florida. As mentioned before, we are gonna plan to get several AVS members to visit the facility, see the production lines, meet the engineers, check out the products (including the Fathom and Gotham lines), have lunch with Carl, Manville, and many of the engineering staff.
I've talked to Carl Kennedy and Manville, and here are some of the stipulations:
* The trip will have to happen in April, so that gives us about a month to coordinate who is going. The tentative dates can be:
- Friday April 13th
- Friday April 20th
* the visit needs to be done during the week unfortunately, which means those attending will have to take a day off. A Friday seems to be the logical choice, as that may give those traveling from the west, center, and north florida (as well as out of state
) can make a weekend out of it.
* Carl said they can accommodate up to a couple of dozen people, so we are going to shoot for 20 members, with a max of 24.
* This is a learning field trip, so bring as many questions, and as technical, as you can.
Those interested, please reply with your confirmation as follows:
Name and AVS username
Confirmation of attendance (whether 100% sure or not)
Once we get the tally, and date, we will plan and organize a meeting location and time, and what the agenda will be.
A big thanks to all the kind individuals at JL Audio for wanting to participate in showing members of the AVSforum the ins and outs of a production facility of high-end high quality Audio products. Particular thanks to Manville Smith and Carl Kennedy for helping and assisting with this effort.
