I'm looking to purchase the LFM-1 EX but I'm having trouble justify the purchase for something that is clearly an older model. Especially when many in this thread have purchased the same sub for $100 less with free shipping a year ago.

Anyone know if Outlaw will be running any specials soon? Or maybe they have something new in R&D that will see a release quickly?

Outlaw's last sale or two involved their wireless adapter rather than a serious discount, and I think that is the type of sale you can expect to see in the future, since it probably isn't as costly for them. That is just a guess on my part though.

I don't know if Outlaw has anything better coming out, but I don't know if it could be a serious upgrade. The laws of subwoofer physics don't really change, it's always going to be a balance of enclosure, driver characteristics, amplifier power, and a few other characteristics, so if they are coming out with something new, I don't imagine it could totally blow away the LFM-1 EXs performance value. An alternative right now might be the Hsu research VTF3, which is on sale now for $70 off. It's mostly the same thing as the LFM-1 EX, the differences are rather minor.

What do you guys clean your Outlaw LFM-1 plexiglass tops with? I didn't want to use something like windex and mess up the finish. Thanks!

How can you not live with only two EXs in a room of that size? They should be absolutely killing in there.

You may need to talk louder. I don't think he can hear very well.

What did you say? Stewey had his two EXs blasting again.

Seriously, I have a 13 x 18 living room and my Plus is more than enough. If I want to smooth things out, I'll get a second but after 43 years of concerts, it's everything in moderation.

I wonder if Outlaw will eventually have its own version of the HSU VTF-15. Anybody else thinking this?

My Outlaw Plus was waiting for me when I arrived home from work Friday. Finally had a chance to dial it in Sunday. My living room is 13' x 18' with a ceiling that goes from 9'-12' left to right. I'm still breaking it in but Outlaw has two thumbs up in my book.

Seriously though, I cannot imagine having two Pluses in the same room let alone two Exs. I could feel my office shake on the other end of the house during certain action scenes. I can only guess that people with two or more subs in their living room are a). under 25 and single b). divorced c). widowed or d). have a living room the size of my entire house.

I am none of the above, but very much enjoy my pair of EX's just the same. For me it was not really for an increase of bass output I was looking for, but twin subs helped to create less localized low frequency effects. I, however, do like chest pounding bass for movies that the pair offer. They also blend well for music as well, although I do trim their output a little with my eq for music. Congratulating you on you recent purchase and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do, but don't be hasty in dismissing the advantages of multiple low frequency modules.

Give it a while...you'll want to add another one.

And my fiancée said the other day "It looks weird just having one of those [LFM-1+'s] there..." I said I could add another one to balance out the looks and she thought that sounded like a good idea.

Well, no wonder you're marrying her! Does she have a sister?

Seriously though, I work in the media and every engineer I come into contact with have nothing near what subwoofers are bandied about here on the forum. Must be too busy sleeping after being called out at 2AM on a broadcast tower call.

I remember my first Plus sub and I had the same impression as you did...BTW, my room is almost the same as yours at 15' x 20' with a left to right ceiling that goes from 9' to 11'.

This really brings a smile to my face as I, again, felt the same way you do during the first few weeks with the Plus sub...

A) It has been quite some time since I was under 25 years old!
B) My Wife is a bigger bass head than me.
C) I like this...a polite way of saying "OLD"...
D) I do have a dedicated Theater Room...

Current set-up is: Two Plus Subs + Two EX Subs + Two Sealed 18" subs with a dedicated 1000 Watt Amp + Six Aura Bass Pro Shakers.

I STILL WANT MORE...

Welcome to the Outlaw Family smudge981 and if you stay away from aggressive LFE movies at reference levels, you should be good to go with the Plus sub...

Well, there you have it. Wish I had one but you make do with what you have. I had to do some hard work blending a living room with a home theater. I wanted something that blew me away while the other half wanted a living room that didn't look like a cinema. Like I'm the first guy to go through that.

I'll just leave you with a little something that my engineer is fond of saying, "Bass is the crack cocaine of the audio world."

*Hee hee* When you get to be my age, you realize the most important thing in life is being able to hear. After thirty years in the biz, I now sit in the back for concerts with appropiate ear-protection plugs.

Glad I did my homework and glad I got the Outlaw Plus. Awesome sub and fits my room dimensions accordingly. Maybe down the road I'll get a second but in the meantime, other fish to fry...

I posted this in its own thread but I figured I'd post it here too. This is a graph of my LFM-1 Plus in my living room (13x14'ish, but open to the whole house, no treatments), Maximum Extension vs Maximum Output.

You can see the added bump around 27Hz with MO mode and it definitely shakes the couch more. I can't say I miss the sub 25Hz stuff much, but I've got a feeling that's because the sub can't pressurize the mammoth space I have it in... Maybe when I get my 2nd one I'll run them both in ME mode.

Free software called REW (Room EQ Wizard), Radio Shack analog sound level meter, some cables, and a PC. It's really easy once you figure out how to connect everything up! The SPL meter acts as the mic, you connect it to the line-in port on your pc, and run a line out of the PC to the receiver. REW generates the sweep and measures the response through the SPL meter and draws a nice graph for you.

Wondering if anyone out there can compare the M8 vs Emotiva 10? They seem rather comparable in specs/output on paper at least.

The M8 is a relatively new sub and I'm not sure how many AVS members have purchased it...Here is one opinion.

Yeah saw that one... looking for a more substantial review / opinion. I was seriously considering an M8 but went with the emotiva for a tighter sound (for music).

Outlaw subs are on sale again, with free shipping. The SMS-1 is on sale for $299 with a sub purchase. Twin LFM-1EX subs and an SMS-1 = sweet!
