Ok i did, just joined the Outlaw family haha. I just ordered the Outlaw LFM-1 EX, what a great deal. This is my first true sub, big step up from those HTIB subs. I'm sure i'll be back in a couple days for some questions on setup and such.

The last time there was a sale the thread went through complete setup instructions (several times) ... I know everyone thinks their setup will be different, but its not.
A little searching in this thread will go a long way towards answering all of your questions.

Regards,
Charlie

Maybe it would help if we head this off a little; perhaps others can reply with any other configuration tutorials:

1) You will need to read a lot. There is no shortcut here.
2) Read the manual Outlaw gave you.
3) Read this AVS Audyssey setup guide. Even if you don't have Audyssey as your room correction software, there are still some tips that might help so that you know what questions to ask. It also talks about setting up dual subs.
4) If you are a Denon user and still don't understand how your Denon receiver works, read batpig's guides and other info on Audyssey and Denons.
5) Follow the recommendation (see the Audyssey guide) to get the sub channel(trim) level set by the receiver set in the -3db to +3db range by your room correction software. That might mean turning the gain (volume) knob on the sub down more than you think you need to and running Audyssey multiple times to get it right.

Anyone have a good, easy to read resource on sub placement to go with this?

The only calibration you need is to select small with a 80 hertz crossover in the receivers speaker setup.
With this setup the receiver will send everything below 80 hertz to the Outlaw sub and >80 hertz to the 975's through the speaker wire. The internal crossover in the 975's will send 80 to 150 hertz to the Boston subs.
Your very welcome.

Just did this Henry and wow!! ... just a small change in connections with a huge difference in sound! Thanks Henry!! Really appreciate your help.

I ordered mine about 2 pm pacific time on friday and I've yet to receive an update or anything. I just called and they have my order, said it will probably ship out within a day. I wonder why mine is taking so long considering my proximity to the actual warehouse. At least I'm close enough (Sacramento) that hopefully I'll receive it this week. I started school yesterday and would like to get the sub situated before I get really busy with school.

I will attempt to post some pictures once received with my living room/theater room set up with a kef 3005se 5.1 system and epson 8350 projector. I would love to see some pics of other peoples' setups once they get the sub.

I too bought an lfm ex 1 on the sale price. I bought it on saturday and they said it won't even ship out till the end of the week cause of how many are being purchased. So i have time to read and study.I too like many others here have not owned a sub quite like this and setting up will be a challenge. I plan to read and Download and read the manual. I also realize that many people have asked setup questions while other sales occurred. But it is very difficult, and annoying to gather all the setup info in this 1000 plus page forum.

So I propose that it would be nice if someone with much more knowledge then myself could put something together . even just links . a structured guide , steps to set up your ex1 to its full potential or even close.

Maybe i should gather info and start my own setting up your outlaw sub , with links to others info. the AVS Audyssey setup guide that cel4145 posted is a good start.

It ain't hard to set em up! Well...the hardest part for me was getting the subs in phase with each other...after that everything was perfect

No subwoofer I've heard has been able to produce the bass I've experienced in the Corps!

I didn't do anything special to set mine up. I just stuck it where I had room, and it sounds good enough to me. One of these days I'll try taking measurements or whatever to see what kind of response I'm getting

Once someone picks room placement and reads through the Outlaw Manual, that AVS Audyssey guide will quickly walk someone through all the important considerations. Not too hard with just one sub.

I also bit the bullet and went for it tonight. Didnt tell the wife either, gonna be hard to sneak it in. Now, what does everyone have for the rest of their system(speakers and receiver). Im gonna need new speakers and eventually a receiver but my yamaha will have to do for now after dropping 550 on the sub. Suggestions? I'd like to stay within the $500 range for speakers(5.1).

Id say do 3.1 for now than get two surrounds when you can . Slow but offers the best sq. What do you expect from the speakers? For best bang for your buck check out the hsu hornloaded speakers. I personally went with energy rc10s for l/r and a energy v mini center. Surrounds were my old paradigm cinema 90s. You could use rc minis or v minis for the surrounds.

Along the same line as this question, I am interested to know if there is a delay between a sub connected directly to the AVR and one connected with the wireless adapter.

Regards,
Charlie

I believe these got high marks from consumer reports as well (not sure if that means anything!):

Build in pieces and invest a bit more in your speakers.

I use Klipsch Reference Line for my fronts and Def Tech's on the surrounds. Those 5 cost me around $1100 and it's phenomenal for a "mid-range" system IMO.

EDIT: Here's what I've got (just the last generation reference line instead of what's out now)...

For home theater usage this setup rocks. For music I go into 2.1 mode (the RB-61 with the Outlaw). It's very vocal, clear, and loud. Sounds concert like.

Fronts: http://www.klipsch.com/rb-61-ii-bookshelf-speakers-pair
Center: http://www.klipsch.com/rc-52-ii-center-speaker
Surrounds: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_735PMON...ck.html?tp=186

My Setup
Stage 1 - Enthusiasm
Stage 2 - Realism
Stage 3 - Obsession
Stage 4 - Acceptance

Which stage are you on?

Those are rebadged Jamos. They get a lot of flack from people in the Energy owners thread. Maybe they are OK for $99???

The JBL Studio 180 5.0 Home Theater package looks interesting to me at $499. Here's a review of the towers: http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/art...eaker?page=0,0. A main complaint seemed to be the low bass--not a problem with an Outlaw for a sub

My girlfriend and I saw these speakers at Frys and tried to take the grills off to see how the woofers and tweeters looked. I don't think they are removable!

That's too bad. I like them better with the grills off.

If anyone has Inception can you please test the scene where Cilian Murphy's character's father tells him his disappointed near the end of the film? Right after that scene theres a scene where you see the elevator going down. During this scene my EX's are making a farting noise even at low volumes on the avr. Anyone else getting it? Last time I got this noise was during the Hulk demo scenes

EDIT: found out what was causing the noise. The air coming out of the unsealed port was causing m DIY SubDude foam pads to vibrate in a way. The best way I can explain the sound is like holding a piece of paper near a fan lol. Gonna try to fix it

No subwoofer I've heard has been able to produce the bass I've experienced in the Corps!

Must..stop...buying...every bluray release...

It's been a long wait for my EX, FedEx now added another day to the expected delivery date, so I won't see it until Friday.

Meanwhile, I re-located a much to boomy JBL ES250 to wife's exercise room. She's happy and I'm on my way to clearing that corner for new EX. Maybe she'll hear it and love it before she sees it and hates it as another "black box" in her nearly all white Living Room. I suppose that would be the best case scenario! Like someone said earlier, buy it first, ask forgiveness later...whatever it takes.
