Yeah, I wanted another EX and I should have just ordered two when I got mine on the last sale, but I myself think the Plus is the next best thing. Just waiting on the delivery man!

I don't either unless it is a really good title and something I am looking for. I wanted MI4 ghost protocol last Sunday, but $30 bucks? I had a handful of others or I probably would have just got it.

The only time I bought a new movie on Blu-ray was just recently...MI-4: GP (Mission: Impossible 4 - Ghost Protocol) at Best Buy. Got my points and I got the digital copy downloaded on Apple iTunes, so I have two ways to look at it.

I can under what pokekevin goes through. I had NO DVDs/Blu-rays. 4yrs ago had all VHS tapes. sold them all. Now I finally wait 'til Blu-ray was mainstream and about 80 Blu-rays. Some new, some used. Amazon.com IS your friend

Im gonna have to say...i watched the pod emergence scene in war of the worlds...and it kind of sucked. I think my room has some sort of black hole for really low frequency effects. When you guys watch WotW...how do your EXes fare?

Kinda disappointed. Hoping its not my sub, but rather my room.

Lol, why would you hope its not your sub but your room? If it was the sub, that problem can be fixed, but your room...

Anyway, you need to get an SPL meter and do some measurements. It may be that simply finding a new spot for the EX can solve your problem. But first, you have to know what the problem is exactly.

How well does outlaw down firing subs perform on concrete floor with carpeting compared to front firing sub?

I can say the same for Underworld Awakening (watch it twice), just awesome LFE. My EX's love it so much I even feed it more the second time around by bumping the sub level up .

I'm looking at the plus or ex models but I keep seeing instances of port noise. Any owners that can comment on how bad it is? I'm considering one of the outlaws the rythmik fv12 or the svs pb12-Nsd. Unfortunately, this is a very difficult decision.

I haven't heard any port noise on my EX, even pushing pretty hard on things like "The Incredible Hulk" or "Battle Los Angeles". I haven't heard anything with music, either. My sub is running with one port plugged, in Bass Extension mode.

Port noise would only come into play during very low frequencies with high playback levels. And it would be masked not only by the fact that the ports are not exposed to the listener, but by other sounds in the sound track, so it really shouldn't be a concern. If it does concern you, the sub to check out is the Hsu VTF3, with much larger ports which do much more to eliminate port noise. I have spoken in the past of the LFM and port noise, but that is in instances of experimenting where the sub on its side for front-firing and also when the bass was played back at very hot levels, so basically I was trying to induce audible port noise, but this isn't how the sub is normally operated.

How hard is it to induce port noise on the vtf3? Thinking about trying one

You know I never even really considered testing a Front firing scenario because I like the plexiglass tops on my two ex's, they are like attractive pieces of furniture. However , they do sometimes reflect ambient light onto my projection screen and even in complete darkness the reflective surface mirrors the screen. I don't really mind that but I wonder both the sound and light setup In my room would possibly be a better option ??

It can be done, but it's not easy, and of all the ported subs I have used, the VTF3 is the one least likely to chuff. You basically have to want to make it happen. You would have to play a deep test tone at high volume with only one port open. One should use caution when playing a deep test tone with any sub though, that is the hardest thing for a sub to do. It will heat up the voice coil and amp, and it will bring the driver to its excursion limits the quickest. It's not something that should be done for more than a moment. It can also be construed as abuse and void the warranty, in fact, here is what Rythmik has to say about that:
Quote:
Abuse includes continuously playing sine wave and other test tones for an extended period. A duty cycle greater than 25% is considered abuse, where the test tone plays for 15 seconds followed by a break of 45 seconds.

If it doesn't chuff under normal listening settings, then the ex may be the sub for me.

And isn't one of your subs nearfield? So you are more likely to hear it than the one at the front of your room?

No problems here! I do not hear any port noise. I also have one port plugged. You will be surprised how smooth it is.

Some how or another a manual for my Denon got caught under my sub and I could not see it, but under deep LFEs the manual would rattle under the ports. I thought I blew it! It was driving me nuts!

I had problems with my EX in the beginning, but for starters even thought the EX is a huge sub, it was not enough for my room. I did some tweaking by bringing the sub off the floor, I also shut off Dynamic EQ and I gained allot by these two tweaks. I then added another sub and that really helped. I recently bought a pair of Monitor Audio RX8's and RX center and gained some nice bass from the RX8's . I finally ordered another Outlaw to assist my EX, so I am hoping that I will have pure epic destruction by the weekend

I would add another EX and keep tweeking till you get it!

The operative word is "tweak." Some people have great luck and are able to nail the location right away. Others have to move it around and experiment. Still others have to add another sub. Keep playing with it..it is a hobby afterall (wait a minute...that didn't sound right.)
