I just got my Outlaw during the last sale (March, 2012), and originally I had it between 3-5 and that was too high, as the AVR had to over compensate and really lower it down to -5.0db. After reading this thread and getting recommendations, I lowered it back down to 1 and the sweet spot everyone says should be between -3.0db and +3.0db. It came in at -1.5db. Perfect. I'll post a pic of where my sub is in my living room.

You can still bump it up manually in the AVR if you want more.

Got "Man On the Ledge" for this weekend. From the previews it seem to have some decent LFE.

Agreed. I just have it physically on the dial set to 1. I actually now on the AVR bumped it it from -1.5db to about +2.0db.

I finally got around to watching Underworld Awakening 3D last night and that was a treat! The movie was OK but Great LFE, lots of great bass, but very smooth. As I mentioned in the bass thread, the machine guns were awesome!

So I'm looking to upgrade my sub. I currently have the Polk PSW505, and I'm leaning towards the Outlaw LFM1-EX.

My question is, with my Onkyo TX-nR809 able to use two subs, should I ditch the Polk, or run them both?

Will the Polk just interfere with the superior Outlaw sub? Or do I stand to gain anything by running two different subs? Thank you!

I know I can, I guess my question is SHOULD I? I don't want the Polk to interfere with the Outlaw in anyway. If it will enhance my experience at all, then I'll run both, if not, then I guess I'll go with just the outlaw.

My room size is something on the order of huge (by my standards anyhow). It's a very open floor plan home. Ceilings are about 10-12 feet high. My living room is my listening area, but living room / kitchen / entry are all pretty much connected and about 2000 sq ft. Home overall is 3200 sq feet. So not the ideal listening space.

I had to mount my surrounds and back surrounds on the ceiling and angle them down to the listening space. Fronts and center are in the entertainment unit.

I would only run the Outlaw and sell the Polk. If you do decide to run both then run the Polk nearfield, but I have an Outlaw Plus and just bought a Hsu VTF-15H and Dr. Hsu recommended to not use the Plus along with the much larger and beefier 15H. A weaker sub will distort and bottom out way before your larger EX and ruin the experience for you.

Try it and see what you think, I probably will just to see what happens, but I have confidence that the Dr. knows best.

Not just for the reason Saints mentioned, but also because the Outlaw should have better SQ.

When I first got my Plus I tried to use a y splitter with my old Onkyo HTiB sub. Crap. It's what drove me to buy a second Outlaw, this time the EX. So it may not necessarily be a bad idea, just be prepared lot spend some more money.

Amazingly my PDR-10 NEVER bottomed out when I had my dual outlaw set up Never the less try the Plus with the VTF15 to see if you like it. Try using it as a MBM

No subwoofer I've heard has been able to produce the bass I've experienced in the Corps!

Must..stop...buying...every bluray release...

No but really I'm certainly no audiophile and far from an expert, however I just got my EX on Tuesday and am running it with my 10" Mirage prestige s10 that's been my honey for the last 2 or so years, In a room around 2600 cubic feet if my number adding/multiply skills don't fail me, and I think it sounds pretty good. My S10 doesn't have any distortion (nor this bottoming out) in her just a quiet roll off around 30hz, adding a second sub won't add any distortion, the only thing it does add is a little midbass. It certainly doesn't ruin the experience in any way imo.

My room response might not be ruler straight but it sounds good to me and (see above about not being an expert) it seems the (mid) bass does smooth out a bit running both over just the ex in a "sum is greater than the parts" scenario. This is just my amateur observation though. I just have to go against the crowd when I see the ol' bandwagon stroll through.

Been experimenting this week and and I think I finally dialed my subs in with a very simple set up. I went to a manual setting. I ran Audy for the mains and surrounds, Dynamic volume off and Dynamic EQ on. I have my plus up front left in max extension, I have my Ex on the side wall in the middle of the room next to my couch in max output. Unfortunately I have to move the plus over about 4 feet as it cannot stay where it is now (WAF)

I have the AVR sub gain at 0 and I am using the EQ for the subs. As I said the plus is in "ME" I have the X-Over switch to bypass and the gain at about 3, I also have plus propped up on the port end about 2". The EX gain is at about 4 and all four corners propped up about 2". As simple as that, it sounds incredible! No port noise, no bottoming out, the amps feel relatively cool to the touch and I have that deep rumble you can hear and feel. I have put in a few hard hitting BD movies and the subs have performed beautifully. Now I want to move the EX up front in "ME" and move the plus back in "MO" and see where that goes. I have got Inception in now and I am loving me some BASS

I'm really impressed with the EX! I temporarily abandoned YPAO tuning on the sub and set the sub volume to 1/2 and the sub's volume in the menu of the receiver to -5dB. The bass is fantastic! Although the sub will still benefit from actual tuning, I'm more than happy with the performance.

I played my new War Of The Worlds Blu-ray, and it absolutely shook the place. It's crazy and more than I expected. The fish in my fish tank were actually stressed by it. I had to turn it down several times because I live in a townhouse. I'm curious if the bass can travel through to my neighbor's house and vibrate objects on their walls. I need to move!

Last year their summer sale was in June. But since they just had a private sale, one might guess the next one will be later than that.

The Outlaw is down firing sub. If you have deep plush carpet, the sub will have very little clearance.

God I love my EX. I've got it nearfield next to the sofa and it just rumbles the crap outta me, and it's sitting on carpeted concrete too. Whenever Outlaw throws another sale on this bad boy I'm so going for dualies. biggrin.gif I'd love to have 1 on each side of the sofa, flanking me, but not possible so I suppose i'll throw the other one next to the mains. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

I went ahead and rewatched a couple big bass movies like is recommended, in WotW those lighting strikes, they were like crack to me. Sharp, quick, loud (LOW). Awesome. That is all.

In general thunderstorms always sound great in movies. It always seems when there is lighting and thunder it shakes you pretty good.

Hi, I don't think I've ever posted here, saw some references to bass-happy movies. So far, the deepest bass I've heard from my EX/MBM-12 set-up was during the Battle scene in 'Game of Thrones' Season Two, Episode 9. House-shaking bass for about a minute during several explosions.
