You will need to tell your 805 that there is a sub and enable LFE. I know I had to do this on my Onkyo 804 (which is the older model). ALso check where the crossover is et on the sub.

i'm 100% positive its the reciever.. I just hooked up my ipod directly to my sub and it works great. I can tell it has a ton of output so i havent turned it up yet. Right when i got the sub inside my living room and had it almost hooked up my neighbor showed up.. grr. Oh well she should be leaving soon.
Right now i'm just mad this reciever isnt working. I'm going to go look into how i can reset it.

alright i got it working with my reciever.. I found some multiplex menu and it for some reason it was set to only output to my front speakers?? I don tknow what that is about. Didnt see anything about it in my manual. Also, it doesnt output my sub in pure audio mode yet in the manual it says that it will. Who knows, i'll take it elsewhere though from here out. The sub sounds great BTW.

I'm holding out on my next sub purchase till this line of subs get some more reviews. My last sub amp took a dump last week. I have a price point around $700. The 2 on my very short list are the HSU VTF-3 and now the Epik Caliber. Until I read this thread I was ready to pull the trigger on HSU, I've almost read the whole Craigssub thread and I found it very informative. (Thanks Craig).

I know everyone has been talking the Conquest but do you have any feeling on these 2 subs.

My HT is 20 X 16 and it 90% movies. Complete 7.1 Paradigm system. I'm looking for a sub which will really bring the bass home in my movies. I want to rock the room. Will a forward firing or the side firing HSU be a better fit...Any thoughts Thanks Mike

I too am now anxiously awaiting reviews of each of the Epik subs as the Knight and Caliber are in my price range for a future upgrade. Craig says he hopes to do a new $600 sub shootout with the Epik, eD A5-350 and some others. For now I think I am going to hold out to see how these all compare.

Wow! That thing could swallow several PB13's! That's a lot of floor realestate, airspace and wall space! I'd have to have a 16X26 ft room or bigger to ever justify that much sub! Still, I wish I could demo one just to experience ultimate bass. I would probably also lay it on its side (if the manual says that's okay) and use it as a TV stand (non CRT stand obviously)

That's no joke- that thing is 22" wide, 31" deep and 36" tall according to the website. Looks like they weren't lying.

PB13-Ultra size versus Epik Conquest size

If you click on the 'top view' tab you'll see that the difference in floor real estate is 1.5in of width and 3in of depth, which doesn't seem like much.

The difference is mostly the 14in difference in height, which is less than stacking two PB10-NSDs.

It certainly has a presence in that room though.

Makes me interested in this comparison:
PB13-Ultra size versus Epik Tower size

True, but just looking at floor real estate doesn't really tell the story- obviously.

I think the scale relationship of the Conquest next to the small tower speaker and TV really make it look gi-normous.

I actually did do the calibration after getting it plugged in but it didnt work initially.
it wasnt very loud though and the reciever didnt think it was hooked up.. Now that i look back i know its because the gain was like less than 1/4 up. I have it set just a bit past half way and recalibrated it later and now everything is good. I'll have to get spl meter sometime so i can get it calibrated more accurately. I also need to re-run audyssey because I didnt like how it came out last time at all so now i have it disabled.

Hmmm....looks fairly large. The twin 18's I built are 24"x45"x50.5" each but I guess its not that impressive cause it doesnt have a name on it.

Scott,

That's not so; this product doesn't remove a thing from a DIY effort such as yours. For me, the excitement is primarily due to the fact that vendors are delivering products that challenge the DIY price/performance ratio.

You have no reason to feel this way; IMHO...

Larry

OH MY!!!

Larry

It definitely is large, but in a decent sized room it probably won't stick out too much. Its not quite as large as my refrigerator but its definitely bigger than most mini refrigerators.
This is a good thing though. I'm glad its not too big. Its actually has such a slick finish its really easy to slide around the carpet. I was able to get it into my house all on my own =).. Lets just say i broke a sweat doing it though. I decided to take the crate off of it on the front walkway because it would have been too awkward to get it in with the crate. Plus i didnt want to have to tear it apart inside.
The crate is working out great, makes for a nice playpen out in our little yard. LoL.

One down side of getting it in on my own was i got some light scuff marks on the top (oops). I thought i was dealing with the bottom the whole time but when i finally got it inside i realized i had the top side down. They are very minor though and you can't really tell unless you are in bright light.

We're watching a rather new movie with a whole lot of bass (don't ask i won't tell) and it sounds amazing. I've never heard this kind of low extension before. It truly makes the lfe at my local movie theaters sound like joke.

Lastly, i'd like to thank Chad for his great customer service throughout. When he found out I had an issue with my sub not playing he called me up immediately and offered to help me get it running, even when i told him the sub was not at fault but that it was my reciever. How many company's would help you out after it was confirmed that their product was not the one at fault?? Probably zero. Anyways. Chad is a great guy and this sub will probably hang with the best of the diy subs out there that you could build for anywhere near the price.

Actually, Im not. My girlfriend thinks they are awesome. Ugly, sure...but its about performance, not looks. They dont even sit there anymore, hidden behind the front speakers and RPTV now. But thats not the what I was going at. Responses like, "OMFG! Thats huge." But mines just ugly? Ummm...mkay....

"Ugly subwoofers need love, too." Its in your sig, man...

You sure you're not just being whipped by your wife there, Craig?

Hehehe, just razzin' ya.

Thanks, Larry. I feel the same way. These seem to be priced just right. *nods* Only thing I could say about the value is that my twins costed the same (or just a little less) as one of these...and they go into the upper single digits without any EQ. Not bad.

Hehehe, just razzin' ya.

Two things I have learned about guys in the last 6 years in the forums:

1. We will show anyone we can how big our subwoofers are

Then ...

2. We will show anyone we can how small our Cell Phones are.

Hang on a sec ....

Ok, I am back.

My wife says girlfriends don't count. She says women will say "it's not that bad looking, honey" until they marry us. Then all bets are off.

Hey, I don't MAKE the rules ... perhaps if you get serious, you need a pre-nup that says you get to keep the subs. In the house. In the place you choose.
