There may be something gained by having those ports near a boundary (the floor) for the coupling or "felt" effect. I'm not sure having them at ear level would be helpful, but anything is worth experimenting right?

I'm running my Conquest upside down. When I first got it last year I was impressed with it's performance for HT but I thought it sounded a little "loose" with 2.1 music applications. This was noticed with it in the normal upright position and I remember Chad saying that some people put it on it's side and liked it better. It seemed that the bass tightened up with it on it's side but I didn't like the footprint- this thing is huge, heavy and hard to place anywhere. So I tried it upside down and it's been there ever since. I think getting the driver closer to the floor was the difference, it seems to be more important than the location of the ports. Keep in mind I'm doing all my evals with my ears and have no meters or scientific info. This thing is still kicking butt a year later and one of my favorite demos is playing test tones downloaded from "Realm of Excursion", in the 12-40 hz range. People will put their faces up to those huge 6" ports and their hair will be blowing back. One test tone is a slide from 35hz down to 1hz(!), at high volume it sounds like a 747 is landing on the roof due to the low frequency Doppler effect. Glad I got mine when I did, it's sad to see that these are discontinued.

I have a laminated floor so that is why it didn't work so well to turn it on it's side or even upside down. The further I keep the driver from the hard surface, the better the db on SQ.

Does this SPL chart of my Conquest look ok? I have it with the Anti Mode (dark blue) on and in ByPass mode (brite pink). As you can see there is not much of a difference. SPL was taken at the seat, 10 feet from the sub. Reciever setting is at -5.5 with volume at -10, and sub gain is at 10:30. Test disk played on my BluRay CD and is the supplied HSU test tones that comes with the HSU subs from 16 to 120 hz.

You've got a little bit of a suckout from 22-35 hz that I'd want to correct. Aside from that it's a nice looking house curve for the most part!!

-Chad

EDIT: Looking at it more, what is covering the 100hz and above? Either your subwoofer isn't calibrated high enough or your mains are too high in the midbass region. Your large bump from 90-140hz is a little concerning. On a scale of human hearing we have the most trouble at the lower frequencies so the point of house curve would be to start high at 20hz, and gradually decrease down to 80-90hz and then you want flat response from there until 20khz to achieve something that sounds really nice

The largest concern though I would still focus on is from 22-35hz as I stated above. The 100-140hz will just add a little midbass "kick" and some people like that Especially on movies.

Mine took 2 weeks weeks to ship. You can give them a call or email and see where it stands if you've already placed the order. If I remember correctly they told me up front the lead time was two weeks when I placed the order and it was spot on. Keep checking your account on the website once it's shipped it will updated with tracking information and again if I remember correctly they also send a email out when it's shipped.

After a long debate with myself, I might have to get something smaller. We are expecting our first child next month. There's going to be a number of changes to my living/movie/music/game room. The TV is going on the wall. This will eleminate the TV stand. Maybe putting the AV stuff on the wall as well. The sub will be moved. Maybe underneath the tv. I hope it works in that spot. I need the corner spot for the baby.

Anyway, the Dragon has a decent size foot print in my room. In other words, its too big. I have to get something smaller. Like a sealed 13 or 15" or maybe the Sentinal. Also, I'm not trying to spend more for it either. I perfer to go sealed. The Sentinal is 5" narrower than the Dragon but still the same depth. I have been looking at the ED sealed 13" A5s.325. 17.5" W x 17.5" H. The overall size is smaller and goes to 18hz.

The Dragon is a great performer but the foot print is too big for me. I'm looking into bookshelf to replace my towers too.

Geeez, to bad we couldn't have got together a few weeks ago, might have worked out a trade. I'm going from the Sentinel to something bigger due to moving this weekend and have more room.

Since your thinking of coming from the Dragon to smaller and sealed keep in mind that output capability will be limited in comparison which is why I went from small sealed to the Sentinel while wanting to stay small and solved that issue completely. It's only slightly deeper than most small sealed subs and about the same width so take everything in consideration when looking.

I'll second that. The movie just never lets up. It was the first movie I watched all the way through with my Phoenix - what a great way to put it through it's paces.

As a bonus, the movie is a lot of fun, too. I rented it with no expectations, and ended up buying it.

Well guys I've only had my two Dynasty's for about a month now, but a opportunity has come my way that I just can't pass up. I have two passions/hobbies in life Audio/Video and Cars and this opportunity is one that I have been patiently waiting on. My fathers cousin who's getting up there in age has finally (after years of me nagging him) decided to sell me his 1965 Ford Galaxie 500XL. What this means is some recently purchased equipment is going to have to go. What do you guys think a fair price would be to ask for two one month old Dynasty's that have been used maybe 20 hours.

Why the Dynasty's?!? Sell the JL's, get more money, and keep the big guys!

I'm actually going to get rid of them as well, along with that new Blu-ray player I got. I have wanted this car since I was 15 years old and they are rare and very hard to find in this condition. I can always replace subs and Blu-ray players etc. My wife got a new job about three months ago and she is working the night shift so I really haven't watched that many movies as it is. I've had Bejamin Button from Blockbuster online for three months and still haven't wathced it yet. I'm really listening to more music and the Aerial 20T's get the job done, so I'll survive for 6-9 months without any subs.
