This is for Empire owners and those on the fence: When I had HSU 3.3 subs they included a test cd that started at 16 hz and went on up to 150 hz. I had tested the Conquest in the past but didn't get around to the dual Empires. Well tonite I did run the test CD on the dual Empires and got 83 - 85 spl at 16 hz and jumped to 92 - 94 spl at 20 hz. So with my setup and dual Empires it actually did better then the Conquest and my room is rather large. I'm happy and will look at adding maybe one or two more in the future, Empires that is.

I emailed Epik to see when the Duals would be ready for pickup. Looks like maybe next Monday. They are waiting for parts. So far I have to say they have responded very quickly to my email, and answered all questions.

Just want to say quickly:

I had a quick question for Chad and left a voicemail. He responded and called back within about 10 minutes. That type of response time might not happen everytime to everyone who calls, but it says a lot about him that he's willing to take a question and answer it personally.

Sounded like a really nice guy and is very enthusiastic about what he does and the products he makes. He answered my question and I'll just say that I look forward to what he has coming down the pipeline.

I plan on picking up my Dual Empires, so I hope I get the chance to speak to Chad. My future plans are a home theater in the basement and I would like to have some ideas of what is next for Epik, I will need more bass down there.

John, I think that you will find that dual Empires will give you all the bass you need. I have duals and it rocks my room with over 6000+ cu ft. I plan on some point to go with another set of duals but that is just for fun not that I really need it.

Bill,
I am sure you are right. But is there such a thing as too much bass??

Not too much, just better bass! That's if your subs are setup properly.

Are the Empire's still on back order?

Curious, has anyone compared an Empire to a Rythmik F15/D15?
I would expect the Empire to offer more SPL and the Rythmik to offer better SQ but still curious about how much difference there is between the two.

Thank You,
Jason

I almost wish I had gotten duals, almost. My single Empire I have now fills up my 2000+ cu ft room with relative ease and its open to the rest of the house! I keep it dialed down because I had some things rattling off shelves and there is a china cabinet directly above it upstairs. This thing really is a beast of a sub, it's probably too high-end as it kinda crushes my Polk gear. I think two is better than one, but two 15" drivers is enough, four would be ridiculous. I'm usually exhausted after demoing it for a few hours to friends and family, but hey don't lament if you like powerful bass, go Baroque!

I see people saying things like "...two 15" drivers is enough, four would be ridiculous." all the time. People seem to think that adding more subs is only to get more output. The fact is that, if you calibrate the combined output of the duals *properly*, you won't have any more output at the same Master Volume Control setting than you have now. What you *will* have is more headroom, lower distortion, and the opportunity for smoother frequency response across more seats. This is the REAL advantage of running duals... better sound quality... NOT more output. Sure you'll have the "ability" to turn it it up louder, (3 to possibly 6 dB), but then you better be sure your main speakers and amps came to the party too.

I have 3 subs, (6, 15" drivers), randomly placed around my room. I rarely listen much louder now than I did when I only had one. But the bass I'm hearing now is the cleanest, smoothest and most articulate bass I've ever had in my system.

If anyone is looking to upgrade to the Empire, I would probably be interested in another Sentinel if the price is reasonable. Please email me at riverarson@yahoo.com

I was thinking of adding to my sub situation, having a single valor. I would like duals for all the material suggesting that 2 subs would even bass response. Seeing as I can't find a valor available, would anyone suggest going with a single empire ( due to cost ) or should I keep my search to a dual setup of matching subs in the 7-800 $ range

Keep looking around for a deal on a good used Valor. There has_ to be some out there. Maybe try some of the various sites like this one with a classified section that includes "Want To Buy". Plus the typical sites fleabay and CL.

Reran Audyssey Pro last nite and did a Design Curve on the bass of 2 db from 20 to 30 hz. that really gave some bottom end bass to the dual Empires. I didn't have to redo Audyssey Sub EQ as it was good from the first calibration.

#5 looks the best.

(Subs on, Audyssey on, Anti-Mode on, SMS-1 on)

#3 is not bad either.

(Subs on, Audyssey off, Anti-Mode on, SMS-1 defeated)

Audyssey Multi EQ AND Antimode combined helps closer to 20Hz.
do you have your receiver crossover enabled or is that a natural room null from ~80Hz-120Hz?

You'll rarely hear anyone say, "I wish I'd gotten less Sub."

Wow,excellent information guys! Now I want to go ahead and order another Empire to even things out and look into adding a 8033 or SMS-1 later on when I have saved some money. Great job on the graphs putox1051, they look fantastic.

I also used a Anti Mode and SMS-1 with Multi Pro and ended up with better results by going with Pro (32 positions for the mic) on the pre/pro and Audyssey Sub EQ (32 positions for the mic) for the dual Empires. With Sub EQ you can equalize both subs and have up to 8X the processing power for the filters. Pro for the reciever allows tweaking on the sub curve for more "omph". It only takes a few db to make a huge difference. I believe in staying with like components.

I received an email from Epik stating my Quad Empires have been shipped out (I ordered on 5/6).

I am going to have fun trying to integrate the Quad Empires with my Quad PB13 Ultras!

I have the Audyssey Pro kit, a Denon 3808, and an Audyssey Sub Equalizer. It will probably take me a few days to get everything setup correctly, but I will keep you guys posted.

Never argue with an idiot; they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
