Can anyone comment on the later (GPM-500 based) empire amp? Did these sound the same as the amp that shipped with early Empires? Any more or less prone to failure?

Believe that is the replacement amp I got when my original failed. I didn't notice any significant difference but I didn't particularly try and find any either....running fine ever since replacement for 4 years now at the end of this month.

Cool, thanks for sharing. Glad to hear its still going strong. I might end up with one of each in my system and just wanted to make sure they would play nice together. I assume they are tuned the same but you never know with the ways things were going towards the end at Epik.

I did notice that the amp pictured on Data-bass.com is the newer one and those measurements look great to me.

Anyone else?

I started playing while I weigh my options. Do you think I have a shot of replacing the 4 capacitors making the amp functional again or do you think the burn killed any chance? The amp always powered on...no sound was produced.

Its always worth a try.
Clean the board real good with alcohol. see whats left of the traces, hope there is enough left to rewire the traces with wire. you might have to ask someone to take a pic of the board in that area to get the traces right. Then replace the caps.

Ugh, I don't know if I feel like rewiring (could be the beer talking ). It sounds like more work than its worth. Regardless, I might give it a day to think about...I don't want to burn myself on the soldering iron tonight.

I doubt I have those same capacitors anyway. I've only ever tried replacing capacitors once and that was on my Samsung TV. If the ones I have are smaller are they going to pop instantly?

So after 4 years, the amp on my Legend finally went out.

I've got a Behringer iNuke NU-6000DSP in my cart, but was wondering how much of a difference the DSP makes and is it worth the $50 difference between the NU4-6000 and the 6000DSP. FWIW, I'll be plugging into the subout of a Pioneer SC-1522K.

I've also got 3 AuraSound AST24B trandsucers running off a Dayton SPA 250 that I'll probably swap out for the 2nd channel on the iNuke.

Get the DSP version. It's very valuable in shaping the FR.

2 votes for the 6000DSP. Its what I have and I really like it. Buy it from Sweetwater. Call them on the phone and ask for a discount and pickup the Neutrik connectors you'll need and perhaps the 1/4 to RCA if you don't have it.

Also, be sure to register to extend the warranty with Behringer. 3-year is NOT automatic.

I've never actually called in for a discount, do I outright ask if that's the best price they can do? What kind of discount can I expect?

I just called, told them the part numbers I needed and asked for the best they can do. It's not a ton (not a lot of margin to begin with), but its probably around 10%.

Thanks all, amp came in Friday. If anyone's interested, here's photos of my install.

I ended up using the following

GLS Audio Speaker Plug Twist Lock Male SpeakOn connector
http://www.amazon.com/GLS-Audio-Spea.../dp/B00LW8VLRU

GLS Audio Speaker Jack Twist Lock 4 Pole Round Female SpeakOn connector
http://www.amazon.com/GLS-Audio-Spea.../dp/B00YQJYEJO

Milwaukee Model # 49-56-9662 Hole Dozer Hole Saw with Arbor
http://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee...9662/202327732

I'm running it in Bi-Amp 1 mode with all filters disabled. The 2nd channel is now going to a pair of AuraSound AST-2B-4 tactile transducers that I have installed in the couch.

Thank you. I did read the post once. However, I should have paid a little more attention as to what was being said.

I joined the Epik family today. I bought two of them to use in my living room for $350 plus diesel to go pick them up. I figure I will be in them about $400 which is exactly what I was looking for in my living room.

Epik made more than the Empire. They made the Legend and the Conquest and I believe one other that was a Cylinder Type Sub also. Congrats, I have 2 Empires that I use in my HT and they sound great! If my amp ever goes than I'll just get an outboard amp for them. Maybe I have the better amps because I did have to replace them once or twice while Epik was still in business. Either way that's a great deal you got there.

Sorry about that confusion. I thought this was an Epik Legend thread, not realizing it was thread for all Epik products. That is why I couldn't figure out what you meant when you asked which kind they were. I remember the Conquest. That was the beast for a number of years back when it was all about Epik, SVS, and eD.

I got the 12" Legend. I know it won't have a lot of extension but it will be a nice addition to my living room system.

The Legend is a good sub, perfect for smaller rooms or living rooms where you don't want a big subwoofer taking up Alot of space.

Agreed and the primary reason I jumped on these in the for sale forum. If I need a bass fix, the theater room upstairs has two Deep Sea Sound 24" Marianas.

My iNuke1000 came in today. After converting everything and hooking it up, I get very little volume out of it even when the amp volume is max. My audioengine p4's dish more out than the sub. Is there something I am Overlooking?

I even wired the sub wires directly to the speakon so I could rule out the wire I bought and the spade connections. I have to nearly max my receiver and amp to get any sort of decent response from it even then.

I feel fortunate to say that my Epik Sentinel is still performing well about 6 years later! *knocks on wood* (Although the bug to buy a PSA S1800--but more likely the S3600i has been really hard to fight off of late.)
