Years ago when I first started using SPL meter to calibrate, i'd do all to 75dB. Then put in scenes I was familiar with and the bass was lacking severely. So I'd tinker with it and would end up at about 85dB.

Then came the receivers with the built in microphones. Again, would calibrate to 75 and put in my test scenes and would be lacking. Then got on the phone w/ Ed at SVS and he said he hears that a lot and it's not uncommon for people to run 5 - 10dB hot.

So, I guess it's just a matter of taste. Sure there's some scenes when my wife is scared our house is going to come down, but I can live with that!!!

is it ok to turn these on and off at mains plug (with switch "on") on subwoofer ?

just mine seems to use about 50W in idle on auto - I thought this would have been improved over the BASH amps (this is a SLEDGE one)

50W not a huge amount, but 24/7 at current electricity prices it all adds up !

Never again am I buying an SVSound product. My SB 13 Ultra stopped working, blows a fuse everytime you turn it on. Always set to "Auto" mode so not left running. Here's SVSound's response (I know what the Sledge amp costs $599! and they brag about what quality materials they use blah blah blah -- mine is one with the BASH amp):

Thanks for contacting SVS! Unfortunately, when the amp starts to blow fuses repeatedly, it is time to replace the amp. The usual cause is an internal issue in the power supply section of the amp and cannot be replaced. The replacement amp for that sub will be the Sledge STA-1000D that currently ships with our Ultra subs. Let us know if you'd like the link for the Sledge amp and we'll send that over to you.

What I wonder should be acceptable?

If it's out of warranty, then what else? Yes it's expensive and that sucks but do you think you should be given a free amp? Free repair?

It is a problem with digital amps, compared to regular amps in say Rel/BK that are pretty simple and easy to fix.

I have a SBU13 and the cost of replacement amp is a little concerning..

What I think is reasonable is them offer to repair it or offer a discount on a Sledge amp to replace the crappy BASH amp. Any idea why they switched from BASH to Sledge in the PB 13 Ultra? I have my guesses...

yeah I understand and agree, the £600 price is a bit extortionate. I don't think these digital amps are easy to fix.

That is tough. I would be upset as well..but this could happen with any manufacture, if you were within the 5 year warranty period with SVS they wouldn't repair the amp they would replace it. I assume if they had the means to repair the amp they would provide you that option.

If an hsu, psa, rythmik component gave out, outside of the warranty coverage period your option would probably be very similar to what SVS is offering.

Does HSU, Reaction, PSA, etc offer to repair blown amps that are out of warranty?

Not sure I see anything really wrong here. Not all manufacturers are going to repair an older amp that is out of their production run.

You could consider just getting the amp repaired locally at a local AV repair shop. That's your best option...

That's if the class D amps can be fixed.

New SVS owner here, just placed an order for the PC 13 Ultra and cant wait for it to arrive. Will probably be a couple weeks as i am in Alaska and i am having it shipped to a freight forwarder in Tacoma then takes 3 days on the boat from there. I really wanted to go with the pb 13u but my floor space is a premium and the pc will fit the home much better. I also just purchsed a X7200WA Denon that will be shipping next week so will have a bit of a learning curve coming from Yamaha's.

Congratulations. I recently acquired a PB13U (it is a MONSTER) and am still dialing it in. They are very good subs. Have fun!

You'd probably just buy a new one from them.

I just got an sb13 ultra. I'm not impressed with life material. I came from a pc12 plus. Now I'm regretting my decision. My room is big, 5000 ft3, so a lot of the problem is room size.

1. Should I get another sb13 ultra? Is 6 dB increase in spl a lot?

2. Should I go back to a ported sub?

Essentially, I wanted a more musical sub since I have bowers and wilkins Cm9 and I wanted to match the clarity and quality of the speakers. I watch 70% tv, 20% movies, and 10% music. Thanks for the help!

I just ordered a SB13 Ultra, upgrading from auditioning an SB-2000, which I actually like a lot. I don't really want x2 subs so I decided to spring for the upgrade. I'm sure I will love it. 3000sqft room in a condo with all B&W CM speakers. 60%HT 40%Music. Loving all my upgrades so far!

- B&W CM9S1, CM2S2, CM5S2, CM1S2, SVS SB13Ultra

I am looking to purchase two subs that will work well, and hopefully create a synergistic effect, with my current Klipsch Reference Series II collection. I can afford each of the two options listed below, I am not concerned about the size of these three subs, I listen to Music 2 channel plus subs (10%), Home Theater 11 channels plus subs (10%), T.V. mostly stereo to all speakers plus subs (55%) and Gaming mostly stereo signal to all speakers plus subs (25%), and I definitely listen at levels louder than the general population and want the ability to play at rock concert/club levels at times. I have always preferred bass reflex over sealed subs.

Can you please advise as to the advantages/disadvantages each of the two options have for my listening needs while giving consideration for how well you believe they would perform with my current speakers. Thanks.

In no particular order:
1) SVS PB13 Ultra
2) Power Sound Audio V3600

Klipsch:
4 Klipsch R-115SW powered subwoofers
1 Klipsch RF-7 II center speaker (it replaced the RC-64 II center speaker shown in the photos)
2 Klipsch RF-7 II front speakers
2 Klipsch RF-7 II side surround speakers
2 Klipsch RB-81 II front wide surround speakers
2 Klipsch RB-81 II front height surround speakers
2 Klipsch RB-81 II rear surround speakers

Klipsch: 5 RF-7 IIs (center, front mains & side surrounds), 6 RB-81 IIs (front-wide, height & rear surrounds), 4 R-115SW subs. Power Sound Audio: 2 V3600i dual 18" subs. ATI amplifiers: AT6005 & AT4006 Morris Kessler Signature series. Denon: AVR-X5200W. Belden: 10 AWG copper speaker wire. Sewell Direct Deadbolt banana plugs. SVS: sub interconnects. Blue Jeans Cables: interconnects. Mediabridge: Ultra series HDMI, Mid Atlantic: RCS-27U rack w/fans. Epson: 5030UBe projector. Elite: 125" AT screen.

I moved from the BASH amp and bought the digital amp and can never look back. It was night and day and immediately sounded better to my ears in my room. It took me a little bit to do the swap since some of the connectors were VERY short so I had to extend one of them for it to work properly. It has sounded great and worked well ever since the upgrade.
