Hello all, I am new to the AVS forum. Im 19 I currently live at home and Im moving out in May. I have all the money saved up I need, and the only thing I want to buy before I move out is a new 5.1 receiver and a new sub. Ill just focus on the sub right now. My home theatre is currently improved by a 6.5" sub produced by RCA,....so needless to say, it is my weak point. I got $110 in BestBuy Gift cards for christmas so I'd like to work either the sub or the receiver out of that store. Im looking to spend $100-$150 on the best/(most powerful) sub I can. Also, I havent seen this sub reviewed on this site so I'd like your guys input on this: http://cgi.*********/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...MEWA:IT&ih=001

that sub usually goes for like $60-$70 on ebay. Theres also a 400W 10 inch version of the same sub that goes for $100 give or take 20.

Also, help on pointing me in the right direction. Ive probably got like $300 to spend on a receiver and sub, maybe a little less or more if needed. Thank you for your time. -Alex

That ebay link didn't work and I checked the BB website, If you just have to stay within your budget the JBL 10" they have listed as online only is probably about as good as you'll get but I'd highly recommend adding a little to the sub budget, their are several choices online at $200 (bic H-100 and AV123 Xsub) that are much better quality and really the least expensive I'd feel good about recommending.

As far as a receiver I'd use the gift cards at BB they have much better choices for receivers than a sub. Anything from Yamaha, Harman Kardon or Pioneer that has the features and connections you're looking for would be a good choice.

As I said earlier if you're going the cheap route the JBL 10" at BB is probably the best you can do, I'd steer clear of the one at the link you posted but again I'd strongly recommend adding a little to the sub budget and get one of the $200 oferings.

As far as inexpensive receivers from BB take a look at the Pioneer VSX-517 or Yamaha RX-V361 both are about the same price and both have optical in as well as other connections.

I just purchased this sub from Amazon for $150. I like it and it does everything that I want it to do. It adds the low end that I want in my 16X14X8 room. At Best Buy this sub sells for over $200 I believe so I would get the receiver at Best Buy with your gift cards and purchase the sub online as stated by a previous poster.

Klipsch KSW-10 will be on sale at Costco at exactly $150 if you round up the cents. There sure be some better ones than it but it's a deal. You need membership to buy it.

Very nice sub for the money. Very linear and musical, but to be honest with you, I personally would not recommend it for most Ht applications, unless you have a very small room. When it hits hard and low it produces noticeable port noise.
