I am curious if anyone knows if some movies are being released in 2.35/2.40 on Blu-Ray and then 1.78/1.85 on DVD. I am talking newish recent films mostly? I didn't think this was happening but apparently it might be? If so why?

Blu-rays and DVDs for newer films are typically sourced from the same high-def master and should be the same aspect ratio as one another. You might find differences in a movie that was freshly remastered for Blu-ray vs. and old DVD with a cropped transfer.

Mostly applies to remastered content, not current productions. You can see differences between releases and especially between releases in different regions.
