It's no HD-DVD but certainly interesting news about the availability of those WMV players and networked media players. Sounds like they are available all over the world EXCEPT US:(

TViX, which uses Sigma design chip is sold in the US. I saw a user's review in audio/photo server forum on this site.

But TViX does not support Hi-def WMV from its product description. Sigma Design offer many different chips.

No.

WMV-HD, yes. But no HD-DVDs and no BDs, yet.

We're talking about standalone players not a 3GHz PC.

I wonder how much a HD-DVD (WMV9) player would cost..because at gotapex.com they always advertise a complete Dell 3GHz P4 HT 800MHz bus 512MB Dell 4700 for $449.

The I-O Data AvelLinkPlayer 2 is available in the US and is supposed to receive a firmware update before Christmas that will allow it to play WMVHD DVD's. It is currently capable of playing back WMVHD video but it doesn't yet support WM 10 DRM for network devices or the WMA Pro audio codec. The firmware update is supposed to add these features.

And the answer is in the OP's link.
