there is a post on Samsung's 2nd Gen 1080p BD player will cost only $799 and will include a better video chip. Has anyone heard anything about this? If confirmed, it will certainly be a good news for those who intent to get a BD player.

with the anticipation of this price, it would be very disappointing if the Samsung's official announcement on the price is more expensive!

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=782666

opps added: price revised to $799 from $499.

i dont see the 5.1 or 7.1 analogue output in the quote below. usually if its supported, it WILL SURELY be included in the press release.

Quote:

One of the BD-P1200 player¡¯s key new features is its Hollywood Quality Video (HQV) processor, which is a powerful unit similar to those used by Hollywood production studios. With its HQV processor, the BD-P1200 player offers true 1080i to 1080p HD de-interlacing, so it can deliver the best HD images possible ? ven from non-Blu-ray formats. The player¡¯s HDMI connection helps boost the sound quality (via 7.1-channel Dolby Digital Plus) and color. This HDMI connection also offers Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) technology, which enables a single remote control unit to operate the BD player, TV and other A/V products from Samsung. With the BD-P1200 model¡¯s HDMI connections, consumers will get superior audio/video quality, with incredible ease and convenience of use.

I just bought (days ago) their first gen for $569. Looks like I may send it back if their second gen is less.

some one was kind enough to post the link to the article. for the time being, it is still a speculation:

Committed to the Blu-ray side, Samsung is unveiling new, and cheaper Blu-ray player, which is expected to be priced at around $500. Another noteworthy products are a double-sided LCD display for mobile phones, a slim MP3 music player that has an external speaker, and a slide-up style mobile phone with a full qwerty keyboard.

About 20 minutes prior to this thread, you authored another one ... http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=782677 ... where you stated that since the average cost of a BD player was $1000, peeps would have to be crazy to not buy a dual-format player for $200 more.

Jeesh. Please try to at least provide some modicum of coherency in your postings. LOL

What do you mean its $800? That's what I reported days ago on here.

There is supposed to be a cheap player coming from the BDA crowd. They were quoted on TV stating they would have a cheap player (CNET). So far I haven't heard of anything.

From the press release photos (the high res ones in the .ZIP), it's interesting to note that the model number appeared to originally be BD-P1100, and that it lacked a Blu-ray Disc logo on the drive tray (as well, it used the older DTS logo). Obviously CE companies go through various revisions of their hardware before announcing them, but it's just funny that they photoshopped the _front image, but not the other two. =)

Fight mediocrity: Insist on BD50 discs for all movies longer than 100 minutes, optimized video encodes that fully utilize the available space, lossless audio track, and new masters for catalog titles!

I think that is their cheap player considering some of the other announced player prices!

When the hell did 800 bucks become cheap?
