As an owner of a HD movie player, I enjoy AVS for both the debates and the information. With that said, I've noticed lately a lot of threads in the dedicated format forums start about some informative topic and decline into a HD-DVD vs. Blu-ray thread, especially in the software forums. I personally would like to see just information about my format in the dedicated forums and leave the debating to this forum. I believe that would be the best way to let people get information on their particular format as well as for new visitors to get information on either format. Both have 2 forums and they are clearly labeled so people can find their way to them.

To my point. I propose the following:

Don't post to one of the dedicated forums (Blu-ray software, Blu-ray hardware, HD-DVD hardware, HD-DVD software) unless you have something GOOD or INFORMATIVE ( not inflamatory informative) about that particular format. While you may feel someone is being a "fanboy," it's OK for someone to be excited about their purchase and want that format to succeed. If you want to debate their point, bring it here and leave their original thread alone.

I honestly think this is best for the forums and for each format. Everyone has a "safe haven" to be excited about their format and also there's a central place to post debates and get the perspective of the other format's supporters.

So, as the original poster, I pledge to abide by my own proposal.

Cheers and enjoy your HD!
Chris

Good luck. That's basically what others have asked for over the last several months. There just aren't enough mods here to enforce this either. Not that it wouldn't be a blessing if it happened.

Not a problem.

I nominate nyg to be a new mod. The fact that he supports Blu-ray won't be a hinderance as he's a fair guy. By the power not vested in me I dub thee Moderator nyg.

I think it's pretty obvious who the 'problem' people are that keep violating this very clear guideline. A few very public timeouts or even bannings would go a long way toward draining the swamp, IMO. There are thousands of lurkers and hundreds of good posters and only a few idiots who just can't stop. I really don't see how they would be missed.

I suggested this also last spring, alas.

How about a different approach. Create a 'trash format" sub-forum where people can got to trash both formats. People can go there to vent -- no holds barred. Those that are not interesting in the negative propaganda can just staty away from that forum.
