The word is that first LOTR releases will be theatrical versions on BD and HD DVD? Will you buy these discs? You can select more than one option. Hopefully someone from New Line will take the result of this poll into consideration when they make their final decision.

If the EE versions are coming within a year I'll wait for those. No disrespect to the TR but I really like the EE versions.

I will wait for both BD and HD-DVD EE versions, and choose the one with the best overall package - AQ, PQ, Extras, the whole shebang.

Hold on.

LotR is coming on Total HD so it may be an impossibility to purchase just a HD DVD or Blu-ray version.

I want each one:

1.) on its own 50GB blu-ray disc
2.) extras on the same disc
3.) seemless branching between theatrical and extended
4.) DTS or better sound

Has this been confirmed? This means another dang flipper format. I hate flippers.

I will be waiting. The Extended Cut of the films are the only version in my eyes.

I'll buy both, but hopefully they'll have both on the same release via seamless branching. And on the TotalHD side of things; I will not buy it if it's a damn flipper disc.

Fight mediocrity: Insist on BD50 discs for all movies longer than 100 minutes, optimized video encodes that fully utilize the available space, lossless audio track, and new masters for catalog titles!

You do realize any disc with HD DVD/BD on it together will cost as much or more as a separate version??

There is no way Sony or Toshiba would allow any undercuuting of prices...A TotalHD disc would be just another choice it would not mean a lower price.....

If I get a BD player before LoTR drops, I'll decide on it based on which is the better version.

Otherwise, I'll vote HD DVD for now.

I will be getting both, and I didn't vote because there's no option for both but undecided on format.

So far no titles have been announced on Total HD, let alone the LOTR trilogy.

I am not entirely convinced that Warner or any other studio will publish those things after seeing the general feedback from both BD and HD buyers.

As for LOTR trilogy, I would try to get both versions.

Extended editions of movies that were already an hour too long? No thanks, I'll pass. Put me down in a new category - best transfer @ the cheapest price whether that's BD or HD-DVD.

It's just my opinion & it's worth exactly what you paid for it.

I've never seen the EE versions so I'd most probably wait for that. Also, I'd wait for feedback on the IQ and if it sucks then it'll be just a rental.

I agree, waiting for a single disc option, format does not matter

I will wait for EE of LOTR on HD DVD (or total HD). Either way, I do not want the theatrical cuts.

Wow - a pretty clear win in term of HD DVD.

168 HD DVD votes versus only 62 Bluray votes, with 201 people so far.

That's almost 75% !

Is that really a surprise?

This forum is heavily HD DVD biased.

I can rant all I want, but in reality, I love LOTR too much to not get the theatrical+ee BD versions on top of what I am already watching today. I'll have to get both.

LOTR on HD DVD? Anytime!

Theatrical? EE? I don't care, I take them all. I prefer the theatrical version of The Two Towers but I own them all on DVD and would gladly replace them.
