They both look like they could be from the same movie.

AWE looks very good. Dark but detailed. The rigging on the ship is a huge improvement over the dvd.

Pride and Prejudice looks awesome. HUGE improvement. I enjoyed the movie too, we watched it a couple of weeks ago.

Don't know if its just me but POTC AWE doesn't look quite as good as DMC which is odd because they were shot at the same time and I would assume encoded the same. Somehow there isn't as much sharpness in the image. Probably just my imagination. Still looks great.

I dont know if its just me or what.
I have a very good quality DVD player that outputs 720P
what my 52in Pana LCD Projection TVs native Res.

None of my SD DVD movies are blurry at all.
I cant think of even one.

I would even say that they look like the HD DVD pics.

Im going to hook up my sons PS3 and see if theres a difference.

Rad you dont sit as close to your HDTV as you do your computer screen, sit a foot or 2 away while watching a DVD then tell me its still sharp.

Congrats to the OP - you have proven that 2 million pixels carries more information (datail) than 400,000 pixels, even if the difference is mostly only noticeable in the near field. Bravo!

So I picked up a copy of Pirates OFC 3 Worlds End on Blue Ray.
I now have 2 copys BD and SD DVD.
I have the PS3 and the DVD player hooked by HDMI cables.

The trailers look awesome on the BD disk and thats pretty much where the differences are.

Im not sure how to get the PS3 tp play at 720P it seems to be stuck at 480P,
there is an option for forcing 1080P but thats it.
Since my TV is 720P that option dosnt work, 1080P.

My wife was watching it with me and cant tell the difference between the 2 formats, Id honestly say its about a 5 % difference the BD disk is only very
slightly clearer.
The BD disk wont display properly as it has 2 massive black lines on the top and bottom, the worst letter boxing Ive ever seen.
Its so bad that the movie is only being displayed in half the screen scrunched all up in the middle of the screen.
I have to manually change the aspect ratio with the TV remote to display normally which is Zoom and displays as a regular letter box movie.

I paused both movies at the same places and like I said maybe a 5 % difference, its so small that my wife cant tell.

Anything I should be aware of about watching BD movies on the PS3 thanks.

I forgot to mention I was sitting at 3 feet and my wife was at 10 feet, I moved back and forth just to see what the difference was.

Um if the movie is 2:35.1 then theres suppose to be black bars its wider than a regular widescreen movie, most big budget movies use that format as seen here.

2:35.1

1:85.1

Also set your PS3 to 1080i your wasting money playing Blurays in 480p.

Can you post a picture like using your digital camera?

I didnt check the Display res that were on Because I just figured my son had them on, but only 480i was on.
After turning 720p and 1080i on the BD movie looks awesome.
Im sticking with BD movies from now on.

The black bars were taking up 50% of the screen before turning the other 2 res on.

There is either something wrong with your setup or with your understanding. Please set the resolution at either 720p or 1080i. On the contrary I personally didn't like the look and feel of POTC3 on Blu-ray.

Blu-ray : 340

Its working beautifully now I dont need to change anything.

But like I said before Non of my SD DVD movies look even close to as bad as has been demonstrated here in this thread.
My regular DVDs actually look pretty darn good.
The BR DVD just adds more definition and extra detail to my eyes.
It makes a big difference but not even close to the contrast Pics shown here,
SD DVD.

Ill be playing around with it some more this weekend.
