I for one am sad to hear this, i am neutral A1,A2 & PS3. but this will STOP the reduction of Blu-Ray player pricing and the BOGO sales will be history.

I wonder how much this cost Sony?

Buckle up and hold my beer I wanna try somethin'

PS3 gets 1.1 update and Warner goes Blu. I think that was all they were waiting for the past 2-3 months. They knew it was coming but had to see it to believe it. Hope my A3 doesnt go bad for a few years, I don't look forward to replacing Planet Earth and HP 1-5. I knew I should have bought them on Blu. Guess it's time to switch all my buying back to Blu for now.

Parties can always renegotiate agreements, if there is no termination clause or other easy way to get out of it. I trust we'll see Paramount revive its Blu-Ray support shortly.

From the Warner official site:
http://www.timewarner.com/corp/newsr...700383,00.html

This was a triumph
I’m making a note here: huge success
It’s hard to overstate my satisfaction
Aperture Science
We do what we must because we can
For the good of all of us
Except the ones who are dead
But there’s no sense crying over every mistake
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake
And the science gets done and you make a neat gun
For the people who are still alive

I’m not even angry
I’m being so sincere right now
Even though you broke my heart and killed me
And tore me to pieces
And threw every piece into a fire
As they burned it hurt because
I was so happy for you
Now these points of data make a beautiful line
And we’re out of beta, we’re releasing on time
So I’m glad I got burned, think of all the things we learned
For the people who are still alive

Go ahead and leave me
I think I’d prefer to stay inside
Maybe you’ll find someone else to help you
Maybe Black Mesa
That was a joke, ha ha, fat chance
Anyway this cake is great
It’s so delicious and moist
Look at me still talking when there’s science to do
When I look out there it makes me glad I’m not you
I’ve experiments to run, there is research to be done
On the people who are still alive

And believe me I am still alive
I’m doing science and I’m still alive
I feel fantastic and I’m still alive
And while you’re dying I’ll be still alive
And when you’re dead I will be still alive
Still alive
Still alive

I have both formats, but lean more towards HD DVD when I make my purchases. WB going Blu was no surprise to me.

Looks like I'll be able to pick up a cheap HD player in the near future, so I can get full sound support out of it rather than the core streams from the xBox addon.

I will be glad and releived when Paramount's exclusivity deal is up and when Blu camp persuades Universial and this war comes to an end.

I'll go for the dowwnload service, because if all this is true and WEB enabled fetures and PiP doesn't mean nothing to Warner the (advanced) physical optical disc died as of today.

Blu-ray Profile 2.0. It's coming soon. All the existing PS3s will have it. Besides, Harry Potter proved that people would rather have (the space for) high definition extras instead of standard definition internet-connection-required extras.

You have two choices, really. You can sit in the corner and hold your breath until your face turns blue, or you can embrace blu. I know what I'd rather do. Believe me, I've been picking the "wrong" video game system every round for almost a decade, so I know how it feels, but why can't you just be happy that there will be one format soon, which can only be good for HD media adoption?

/mourn HD-DVD

A single format paves the way for the same pricing of players and software we see now from DVD. Hardware manufacturers can streamline their R&D process confident that their players will be able to enjoy a normal marketing cycle. Circuit City can compete with Best Buy on the basis of price, rather than which one can cut the best deal with a consortium.

Player prices will drop precipitously over the next year. We will see $100 Blu-Ray players within six months. Studios will begin pricing new-release HDM to compete with DVD, because their next target is to get people to buy discs instead of PPV. Remember that well over 50% of households are predicted have HD cable or satellite by this time next year, and nearly all will at least have digital TVs.

This is why it's important to jump-start HD discs now, before the mass market adopts viewing habits that don't involve discs at all. The format war may have already done irreparable harm to this process.

Same was true if HD-DVD were winning the war.

I didn't want blu-ray to win and I'm fairly disappointed at this news but when I bought my ps3 last year I expected this sooner vs. later.

I've just got to decide what to do with the HD-DVD discs I have, if I'll keep them or not. I'll probably hold onto them for the forseeable future.

Warner should have made this announcement before releasing the Harry Potter set and Blade Runner.

My girlfriend's going to be pissed that she won't get the last two HP's on HD DVD now...

Surprise surprise. We knew this is going to happen eventually.

But I couldn't care less since I have both formats anyway.

BD-A1010/CD-S1000/PF60
HTR-6290/A-S1000/KDL46V5100
NS-555/SOAVO-900C/NS-125F

BD - 242
HD - 7

I don't think prices will increase, there is no going back, now.
Mass adoption has a lot to do with reasonable prices, else the HD-market will stay niche, and this is something no studio wants, IMHO.
But I do not expect Fox to suddently release more titles, mores the pity.

There goes my HD-DVD collection. No more sales from me. Selling my 360/add on and all my HD movies and going with a Sony PS3.

Good plan, because all our HD DVDs and HD DVD players are going to spontaneously combust in May when Warner switches. It's a serious fire hazard.

I'm neutral but favored HD DVD from the beginning. I don't regret any of my HD DVD purchases. I can still enjoy them whenever I want, including all of the Warner titles that aren't even on Blu-ray yet!

It was a good run but I think this is the beginning of the end.
