I sure am, but I'm still unsure how to make it work to AirPlay from a Mini hidden away in a closet to the Apple TV in the family room. How about you?

I was until I realized my hardware isn't new enough for Apple to support AirPlay. Perhaps there will be a workaround - I don't need mirroring, just output to the ATV.

Has anyone tried AirParrot in a HT environment?

iTunes can already send content to an Apple TV via Airplay, at least under Lion. Before I removed Flash, I was using ClickToPlugin to send content from Safari, but that seems to require Flash be installed, at least with YouTube content...

ClickToPlugin & ClickToFlash Safari extensions

Generally, it worked very well, but is mostly useful if you're surfing and want to put something on a bigger screen.

Decent comparison of AirPlay mirroring with AirParrot here:

Thanks Dennis, I do use iTunes to play audio from laptops to my aTV, however the vast majority of my video content is not in iTunes. I'll check out ClickToPlugin to see if it is of use.

Thanks for posting this chefklc, it sounds like AirParrot is definitely worth checking out for those of us with non-AirPlay mirroring compliant hardware.

My experience so far airplay mirroring in mountain lion with MBP retina + atv 1080p connected via ethernet to my verizon fios router:

- XBMC: non-HD content plays without stuttering or audio hiccups | HD content (regardless of container: mkv, iso, etc.) plays well for a few minutes but eventually stutters
- VLC: same as xbmc, though HD content sustains smooth playing for a bit longer
- safari: have only tried amazon prime HD. content stutters pretty quickly.

Because of the HDMI port in the MBP, I don't need to muck around with airplay mirroring. Even prior to the HDMI port because the thunderbolt<>hdmi adapter worked exceedingly well. Still, I'll continue to tinker periodically with airplay mirroring.
