I tried searching, but found little information and most of it was out of date.

I want to be able to use VST or AU plug-ins to process the sound from movies being played on a Mac.

Or, if there's any way to route the decoded 5.1 audio to a program that does support VST or AU plug-ins, that would work too.

I am not familiar with Mac's, but on Windows, ASIO is used to route multi-channel audio from one program or hardware to another.

Does anyone know how that can be done on a Mac?

I have seen which supports VST and AU, but I think it will only "hijack" 2 channel audio, but I am not sure. I want at least 5 or 6 or 8 channels to run through some DSP processing.

I know it's a little obscure, but maybe some Mac experts here might also be musicians and can steer me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance for your help,

What exactly do you need to do when you want to process audio?
