hmmmm..first ...
I would doubt if cupertino in its "splendid isolation reality distorsion field" even knows that there are
such strange things as htpcs.

.....
but good news : after a lot of e-mails they finally know that there are things like PAL and 50 Hz.
though they only know..

ffdshow, AFAIK, not only runs only under Windows, but uses several Windows components to work. I believe what you are looking for is ffmpeg, which is integrated into MPlayer. There is a version of MPlayer made specifically for the Mac. You can find it here: http://mplayerosx.sourceforge.net/

You can also get ffmpeg separately for the Mac here: http://homepage.mac.com/major4/

These Mac alternatives may not be as flexible or powerful as the Windows version (I'm guessing here because I've never seen the Windows version), but work is continuing and, hopefully, with more people interested in HTMacs, we'll soon have something as good, if not better!

I looked very briefly at the ffmpeg site. I don't see any post-processing capability at all. I certainly could be wrong, but ffdshow and ffmpeg don't seem to be in the same ballpark whatsoever.

If ffmpeg would be truly helpful to those wishing to improve media playback on any of the mac's, it should have a dedicated thread including hardware requirements.

How can this be? ffdshow is the Windows port for ffmpeg.

Well, OK, but how do you get it to work as a decoder on the Mac? From the comment above, it is integrated in MPlayer? How do you load it, what settings? I'm curious...on a PC, it's a very powerful tool yielding a noticeable, even dramatic improvement in PQ.
I guess what I'm asking....how is it implemented on the Mac platform? What resources does it consume? Does it increase PQ?

In the case of each platform, you have to use a player capable of utilising the various filters provided in the ffmpeg project. For Wintel, this is done through DirectX graphs and FFDShow implementing DirectShow layers on top of ffmpeg algorithms. On Linux, this is done by calling mplayer with the right command line (or Xine I suppose, I just don't know how that works). Presumably, you just have to call mplayer for Mac with the right options to enable the various filters you want.

Getting closer....now, can anyone give concrete examples of the options to load/enable?
Suely you know what I'm asking...
