I am getting a new Powerbook, wondering if it can do double duty as the main DVD player plugged into an external projector for a home theater system. Are there any advantages/disadvantages to this? What other components/connectors/etc. would I need? This would go in the room where I do all my computer work anyway, so I thought it might make sense to try this out...otherwise, perhaps a home theater in a box setup? Thanks in advance for any thoughts here...

This is kind of going to depend on what kind of quality you want. If your projector doesn't have a VGA or DVI port, you're going to be stuck with composite or S-video (via an adapter that I think is included with the powerbook). You're also going to be stuck with stereo sound, as there is no optical or coax output on the powerbook (unless you get an external USB device).

Personally, I would get a home theater in a box instead.
