Installers surprised me today...

Scale is hard, but that couch viewing distance is going to be 17-18' from screen, maybe a bit more.

Width of room = 190" (15'10")

4 images, 2 from seating distance (with and w/o flash), 2 from back wall.

Projector doesn't come in till Friday at earliest. frown.gif

1.5 gain, Ultramatte.

JVC X95

Yes, the 167" is the width of the screen area side-to-side.

Thank you!....that is one huge screen, wow!....curious to know how you find the brightness to be once installed (Is it bright enough?, is there huge variations in brightness from right to left when seated away from the ideal center?).

Thats only because the curtains are open, they are blackout curtains.

At night the place is black as can be, during the day there is minimal light.

Before purchasing, both Stewart and JVC said it would work. So we'll see!

Wow your screen is huge!!! Are you doing CIH and using masking panels for 16x9, or are you having all content be scope dimensions?

Projector on-line.

And its AWESOME.

Picture looks FANTASTIC on low lamp.

it looks like something HOLY on high lamp.

I'll post pix this weekend. he just got it up today, and i temp wired L/C/R speakers (no surround or SW) just so i coudl get a feel for it...how my 5800 sounds in a room nearly twice the size of the old room it was in, sound is blown away too.

All and all, very happy with everything!!!!!

EDIT:

DVDs up-scaled even look good! I just through in Clear and Present Danger to check it out, and it is VERY watchable...So replacing DVD's with BD will probably be even a more conservative approach. Granted i bought a ton with the Reward Zone points I got for buying the screen through best buy. ($700).

No pix yet, installer is ill, so he wasn't able to calibrate screen, plus I just got the Lumagen XE3d...

Out of the box everything looks pretty good though, well, darn good.

Missus with daughter went and rented the DVD of The Hobbit. (not the bluray, go figure), and it looked amazing. I saw this in HFR in the theater, and i prefer the DVD to the HFR version to be sure. I won't be buying the disc, but I might netflix the blu-ray and DVD at some point to compare.

Decided to try some anime, and the Remastered version of Robotech looks and sounds way better than can possibly be imagined.

It will look better when my masking it set up too I'm sure.

Overall, very happy so far.

So last night we sat down and watched the 3rd version of the classic Star Wars: A New Hope.

High Power lamp mode, 167", as close to the original theater experience you can get.

It was very enjoyable. The size of the screen allowed you to see things that have been missed on the smaller screens of the past 30 years.

Death Star readouts, Luke's facial expressions at the awards ceremonies, 3PO's wirey waist, and a plethora of other features. A Star Destroyer really looks like it could destroy a star at this scale!

Having never REALLY watched this version, as in sitting down in a theater, usually it is just on and filler on my old 65" set while playing WoW, I now understand why reviews of this version of the film are lackluster.

Having watched Iron Man 1 and 2, and other modern movies on BD, then watching this, you see how the master could have been done better. This really only matters in a comparitive aspect, not in a flaw in the movie itself.

Grain in the sky, certain scenes looking extraordinary and others not so much, but i guess thats the price you pay for 35 years.

All I can say is I'm glad I watched modern movies first, otherwise I'd of thought my money wasn't well spent at all.

Tonight will probably be Episode V, as our current Netflix Smallville disc was cracked. =(

This past May 25th was the 30th Anniversary of the release of Return of the Jedi. The Digital Bits had a blurb on it.

Glad your liking this. Isn't the 3rd version of SW-ANH the 2004 DVD? (1977 OT, 1997 SE, 2004 DVD). Do you have the BDs? And did you notice the white tape holding the storm trooper armour on?
