CIH software

Hi,

I am looking for a way to do Constant Image Height with software or a mediaplayer. Source for my movies is a computer. I want to play anything from a seventies 3:4 Italian TV rip to a modern HD file in 2:35, in the same image height. Projector is a Benq W1070 with 1920x1080. I am seated at 16 feet from a 8 feet wide screen. I don't mind losing some resolution. Been happy for years with low res 800 x 600 projector. But would love cinemascope as it should be. (scope highest resolution widest screen, widescreen less resolution smaller screen in analogy of 35mm technolgy) I dont mind black bars on the side of the WS picture.

It would be wonderfull if there would be software that let me do this.
Cinemascope 2:35 = 1920 x 817 pixels
Widescreen 1:85 = 1511 x 817 pixels
Academy 1:37 = 1119 x 817 pixels

Anybody know of software that would do this? Set 817 pixels height and forget? Again i do know i am losing some resulotion, i am not that fixated on resolution. DCI just zooms out Scope in theaters, never had any problems with that or felt a great loss over the pixels getting bigger when going from wide to scope when visiting a theater.

I just want the picture to fit on the screen, no hassle with lenses or zoom.

Kind regards
Rainbow

I believe J River Media Center will do what you want. There's a free 30 day trial download available.

I think what you want to do is define a custom 1920x810 or so resolution, that way the PC sees your display as scope, then most of what you need will happen automatically, you'll just have to zoom (electronically) the letterboxed scope content.

See what an anamorphoscopic lens can do, see movies the way they were meant to be seen

Thanks

I will try the Jriver software! Price for the final JRiver version is 49,98 $, affordable if it really is hassle free set up and play. I tend to watch everything from old silent movies (1:1.37) to blockbusters (1:2.35) and back again on the same evening, so setting up pictures / formats / lensshifts / zoom etc becomes annoying really fast.

Would be nice if projectors/ mediaplayers had a Constant Image Height feature

Hi,

This is driving me mad. JRiver has ton's of option's, but somehow i don't get the setting in such a way that it does 1:37 <> 2:35 all in one 1:2.35 screensize with blackbar's on the side until 2:35 is filling the complete screen.

Still very much in need of software to make a 16:9 PJ into believing it is a 1:2.35 PJ

Regards

Joy! For some GPU cards there is the solution of Custom Resolution Utility or CRM.
