I hear it's true. I have quite an old xbox 360, and a 37'' Sharp Aquos 1080p set..which is connected via component cable. I wonder if 720p is the maximum resolution with component and how big is the leap from 720p to 1080p?

I get great graphics through 720p and wonder if 1080p will truly blow me away

Thanks for any replies

Your XBOX will send 1080p via component. As to whether you'll notice a difference or not, that's up in the air. With a 37" set, unless you are sitting very close to the screen you may not notice a difference. Either way, your picture should be fantastic.

That's the thing..i can't access the full resolution 1920 x 1080...the screen just goes blank and goes back to what i had it before.

I'm getting a ps3 on thursday with hdmi cable and planet earth blu ray, and i wonder how the quality will be different to that of watching standards. So if i get 1080p full hd there should be quite a difference right?..i sit about 5-6 feet away from the screen.

The Xbox360 can send 1080p over component, but not all TVs will accept it. For example the Sony XBR2 will accept a max of 1080i over component; HDMI is required for 1080p. Maybe that's the issue with your Sharp.

the HDMI version of the XBOX360 offers 1080p.... and the above poster is correct about component 1080p ... it will do it all day long... but only a handful of display units can accept it

Yeah maybe so. It is suprising that the PS3 content hasn't matured up yet.
On the other hand, Rock Band on PS3 is just as good as XBOX 360 IMHO.
