Very true. It was screwed up when sellers started selling items over MSRP, so they could take part of your 30%. It took me two weeks waiting for Buy.com's ebay store to put up some PS3s for MSRP, as all of the other guys were charging MSRP + 10%, or so. While it was annoying, I give the "other" sellers some respect for gaming the system.

when ebay had the 40% off, it was complete chaos. People were just buying from each other without delivering, for example:

GuyA sells ps3 for $400
GuyB buy it (pocket 40% cashback), then relist it for $450
GuyA buys it back again (pocket his 40% cashback), then relist it for $475
..etc..

now imagine tens of thousands of people all doing this. I never seen price of a wii went up so fast in my life, it doubled in 1 night on ebay lol, and i actually wanted to buy one to play mario karts

The check the paypal emails for muliple transactions so its was not as easy as you think! I talked to an internal source at Microsoft over this (I went to school with some people high up the MSFT food chain). You could only do this sort of transaction once unless you have many, many paypal addresses. I guess organized crime could get into the game and do it

IMO it wasn't like that at all last year. I capped my $2000 cashback easily with the 30% deals. I monitored it for a long time too. I never really saw price increases like you talk about.

Is this a serious post? I wasn't making grandiose claims, just giving a specific example from my personal experience. For two weeks, you could not pay MSRP for a PS3 on ebay as Buy.com's ebay store sold out very quickly, and the only people left were "personal sellers" that were trying to take advantage of the system. Once Buy restocked, I jumped in quickly and bought one at MSRP. (Two weeks later)

I bought several other products, and had no issues, but there were certain pockets of ebay sellers that knew all too well about this program, and tried to take advantage. (The PS3 is definitely one of them.) Your opinion doesn't matter much when dealing with facts.

Thats fine, do not get bent out of shape on disagreements and your facts (actually just opinions) are no more or no less valid then mine on what was happening

Many, many products did not spike because of the program that is all I was posting. Did the PS3? According to you it did, I bought mine way below MSRP so I guess I was in on the game early on.

I wasn't an early adopter of the 30% discount at first (seemed to good to be true) but when I finally gave in there where only isolated cases of the dreaded price gouging that I was aware of. IIRC, that was around the Christmas season and the timing couln't have been any better . Sure would like another shot at that one again...

I got 14% on an SC-05 on Saturday (April 25)

Like Conklin said, it changes all the time. I have not been able to figure out when, why, how, etc. of the changes.

anyone know of a website or program that will email you when the cashback changes? I need to buy some stuff and want 14% back! (well 30%, but don't think that is going to happen)
Best,
Chris

Has anyone gotten any updates from that site? I set the "notify" at 10% awhile back, and haven't heard anything.

I bought a Velodyne DD18 on eBay yesterday with an 8% Cashback and got the refund IMMEDIATELY! The email from paypal verifying the refund arrived even before the confirmation of the money transfer...

That's pretty good, if you ask me.

If you search fro an item through live.com to get sent to ebay, then it should only list items that get cash back. You can tell for sure by hitting the "buy it now" button, but not the "confirm bid" button. You should see a note about cashback at that point.
