The Boston Acoustics flagship VS series of speakers is being discontinued. There is no real replacement, since BA has recently released their 'top-line' A series which is really a backstep or two.

Package includes:

(2) VS 336 - Towers
(2) VS 260 - Bookshelfs
(1) VS325C - Center
(1) VPS210 - Sub

Link (click the 'bundle' tab on the link)

Retail price of the 5.1 VS setup was $7400.

Vann's has all the individual speakers on sale for roughly 60% off, but the extra discount comes in when buying the bundle where the savings over retail hit 73% off....$1995 shipped. That's over 250# worth of shipping included too!

If you happen to be a Citibank Dividend card holder, you can utilize the bonus 5% back for Electronics Store purchases through year-end. That'll knock an extra $100 off in the end.

I'll let you know in time since I jumped on the deal. The extra discount is now gone it seems so they are $2500 with the free shipping as a bundle. Still a really good price.

Strangely I found the deal on my own just digging for speakers and seeing what Black Friday deals were around, but thanks to SleeStack1 for posting the deal anyway.

No way I'd have spent that much on speakers otherwise, but that deal was just too good to pass up.

Bummer about the loss of bundle savings. Went from extra $600 off to just $100.

Got my speakers yesterday. Have not done too much listening yet, but I am happy with the fit-and-finish and sound so far. No exaggeration I can pick out yet, either at the low end or the high.

Admittedly, I am using room correction with my Pio SC-25, but the 'after' curve is not adjusted much at all frequency-wise . Maybe -0.5dB at 10kHz and up.

The 336s are bigger than I anticipated. They are absolutely overkill in my room. I don't mind though :P

Are you wall mounting the Vs260s and if so how/with what?

I won't be using the VS 260s, at least not for a long while. I have in-wall rear speakers and a room that is not large enough to take advantage of 7.1.

However, the users manual says each 260 comes with a wall mounting bracket (key slot type).

It looks like there would be very limited adjustment for toeing or tilting downwards though. Probably would be fairly easy to work a solution with an omnimount though.

Incidentally, if someone is interested in a pair of unopened VS 260s, we can probably work a deal...

I haven't opened the 260s. I'd rather not in case I sell them. The 325c came with a bracket and the users manual (for ALL VS speakers) says:

Quote:

The VS240, VS260, VS 224, and VS 325C can be wall mounted using the supplied mounting bracket

edit: now I see the confusion. The online manual says the VS 260 was taken out from the wall mount section. Hmmm.

I decided to open one box and look. No mounts are included, nor mounting posts. There are two threaded inserts in the back though. It looks like an Omnimount is a necessity to wall mount the 260s.

Indeed, thanks for the info on the 260s. I'm planning on mounting them on the enclosures built around my teleposts as they're just the right spot for rear speakers relative to where the primary seats will be.

I just went to a local dealer having a close out on this year's Paradigm monitor series. I put a deposit/hold on:

Monitor 11 v.6 1 pair
Cc390 v.6
Adp390 v.6
Dsp 3100 v.2

This came out to just under 3000 with tax.

How would this deal compare with this paradigm set?

The Bostons are a much higher % off MSRP than the % off MSRP you paid for the Paradigms.

But what does that mean?

It appears the Boston VS series cabinetry is more expensive (Curved edges and finish) to make.

But sound quality, who knows? Way too subjective. Only you can decide which ones sound better to you.

One will almost always pay more from a local dealer, but you also get (hopefully) knowledgeable assistance and the ability to easily return items.

Do you have any local dealers that sell Boston? You can listen to their RS series for an idea of how their tweeter sounds if no one has the VS.

I am close to pulling the trigger on the same VS setup that you purchased. I have a Pio SC-37, and was worried that with the VS 336's having a sensitivity of 87db that the sc-37 might not be able to push them adequately. I know the SC-37 and SC-25 are very similar and so I am very curious if you have any feedback on my concern.

Its impossible for me to tell you if they will play as loudly as you like in as large a room as you might possibly have with whatever type of source material that you prefer, at whatever x-over setting you may or may not choose for them.

Assuming you listen at 'sane' dB levels in a non-auditorium size room, I SUSPECT you will have more than enough power on hand.

But then I might be wrong.

What is the maximum volume you use with your current speakers? What is their efficiency rating? Would this delta be able to be compensated for by turning your volume up by that many more dB on your receiver?

My room size is about 20 x 18. My current system is SC-37, with Polk Monitor 70s front, Polk CS2 center, Polk monitor 40 rear, PSW505 sub. I would say i mostly listen at a volume somewhere between -25db and -30db...I rarely go beyond the -25, especially with blu-rays which seem to play louder than cable tv. I believe the sensitivity rating of the Polk 70s are 90db, 40s are 89db and CS2 is 90db.

Damn, wish I would have got in on this sale. Hopefully they drop the fronts to $500 sometime in the near future.
