To some extent, I agree with you. I've been getting extreme deals on all kinds of electronics and computers/laptops for a few years now. Stores like Office Depot, Staples, Target, Sears, etc. are far more likely to have employees ("kids") grabbing things for themselves than Magnolia (and I do mean Magnolia rather than Best Buy). Also, unless employees are really monitoring an item over time, quite often they don't even know the latest price on an item until they look it up or scan it for you (hence, the policy of NEVER call if you're trying to get a deal otherwise you may alert an employee who wouldn't otherwise know about the price drop). When I bought the 5308, the guys in Magnolia had NO idea that the price was that low until they actually looked it up. They were flabbergasted when they saw the price. Of course, the employees at the two closest Magnolias nearest me may not be as devious as the employees at the Magnolias you frequent.

Visa signature will double the waranty for up to one year. If you have a visa card that says 'signature', then you have it. However, getting a claim with them can be a pain as you have to get the receipt, credit bill, and an estimate from a shop, submit it all in and wait, and wait. I have used a few times.
The better one is the service that amex offers. I have a Starwood Amex with free extra waranty and the way it works is you call them, tell them you crap is broken and they give you a credit on your statement for the purchased price. I have used this twice, for a watch and a camera and in both cases, I got credit within 24 hours of making the call; they didn't even ask for me to send the broken junk in!
And, if BB went under, they'd probably have a third party buy up their warranty work, just like circuit city did.

My closest magnolia wouldn't budge on an open box 4311. The guy tried to bs me telling me I was getting a brand new "almost boxed" up receiver and he couldn't even find the accessories. Lame.

Yes, I know that VISA is what was being discussed and that's what I was responding about. Some VISA cards include up to an additional year of warranty coverage at no charge and some don't. From what I understand, if the card says "VISA Signature" on the front, the extra warranty is one of the features you get for no extra fee. People should read their card agreements to find out what features are included so they can make informed decisions (of course, I would never pay extra for an extended warranty on something like a receiver).

I just looked at an open box 4311 at the Best Buy/Magnolia store in South Elgin, Il(on Randall Rd). It was priced at $1,299 but I did not try to negotiate a better price because they could not find any accessories(remotes, Audyssey antenna, etc.).

Just F.Y.I., you can typically get both remotes and the Audyssey mic, brand new, for about $125 shipped. You might want to go back and see if you can get them to knock off $200 or more since it's missing all the accessories. It doesn't hurt to try.

My magnolia only had 2 new ones and wanted 1499 for them.. I guess I will hold off a little longer and try to get it cheaper since I dont NEED it right now.. Plenty of work to still do in the theater room.

I know that this is a 4311 thread, and I'm the proud owner of both a 4311 and a 5308, but I just found out about what looks to be a real good price on a Marantz SR7005 (I'm no Marantz expert though) for anyone who may be struggling to obtain a 4311 at a price they're happy with:

http://store.audioholics.com/marantz-sr7005.html

Use code SRDEAL to bring the price down to $1000 shipped.

Interesting. I don't know much about Avrs but I was recommended a 4311 for my setup.

How does this compare to it

No XT 32 on the Marantz but that's about the extent of my knowledge with respect to the Marantz.

The Marantz SR7005 is 98% identical components-wise to next level down of Denon receiver, the 3112CI.

The marantz 7005 is basically the same as the denon 3311ci (the model right below the 4311) and the 3311 can be had for less than the 7005.

My mind keeps going nuts with choosing a avr since I don't need it for like another month or two

Some say go with a pioneer vsx-60 some say denon 4311 for my dual subs. Some say I will need a extra amp for my three fonts. I hate choosing something that I don't know crap about lol

Another priceless post of totally factual information rolleyes.gif. I'm sure some employees at BB might grab some good deals but you make it sound like every BB employee does this. I called Magnolia several months ago and the salesperson was real nice. He said they had two new 4311s in stock and were happy to match the EE deal of $1299. When the price at EE dropped to $1238 Magnolia refunded me the difference. There seems to be quite a bit of negativity toward BB in this thread but my experiences have been quite poistive over the years.

My SACD collection, watch it grow and my wallet shrink ;-).

Denon 4311 (in preamp mode), Parasound 2100, Boston Acoustics A7200 amp, Oppo BDP-103, Consonance CD120, Panasonic TC-P60GT50 plasma, Panamax 5100EX, Salk Song Towers, Song Center, ADS 300C (surrounds) and two Rythmik F12SEs.

Bill,

I actually had a similar experience this past weekend. Normally at BB I don't have much luck with price matching online, but this time they happily matched EE's price. Although they didn't have one from their store in stock and have to bring it in from a local store - which I'm still waiting for.

It seems they get more in and sell out on a continuing basis. Did you ask when they expect to receive more? Many others have had luck with a 'preorder.'

I just brought a floor model from the Magnolia at my BB here in Brooklyn, NY for $799!
granted it came with just the main remote and a power cable.
I will have to try and get the denon mic and whatever other accessories i can at some point.

Happy with my purchase, if it lasts a year I will be good with that!
It replaces a somewhat inconsistent Onkyo 708 in my basement setup.
The sound with XT32 is a marked improvement.

Happy hunting All,

Happy hunting All,

Typically can find new 4311 Audyssey mic for around $25 shipped on eBay:

Maybe it depends who you talk to? I called two weeks ago and was quoted 1193+30 shipping. Can't imagine they would change pricing that drastically in that short period of time?
