Dude I called, or should I say tried to call, nearly...I'd say 10-12 (probably more) Best Buys and visited 5 of them. A couple of them I visited like 2-3 times thinking something might come available, and I'll just stop by real quick.

Have you ever tried to call a Best Buy?

I have. They actually do not answer the phone more than they do answer the phone.

I do know I will not play this game with Best Buy again. Time is valuable. I most likely will go with a trusted online source, after doing my price research online.

I ended up getting my 4311 from ABT electronics. Another forum member hooked me up with a salesman that he had made several purchases through. This salesman was his go to guy at one of their physical stores (I believe they are only in the Chicago area). He was a real nice guy over the phone. He earned my business because he seemed very professional and then he accepted the price I offered. Basically it seemed it was his career (vs. a job) and that sense of professionalism won me over. I haven't talked to him since, but I assume his contact information is still correct. If I need something he sells, in the future he will most likely be the first person I call.

I've also had great customer service from Vanns. Excellent service actually. I have a guy I can contact there as well now. (He went well out of his way to make me happy and told me to call him directly if I need anything else.) So they are at the top of my list as well.

Yes, BB can be a pain but for the money saved, it was worth being on hold forever, calling all KY, OH & IN BB's w/Magnolia inside (the only available source). I tried online but I quickly discovered that was futile. mph speaks the truth about dealing w/a bunch of kids working a job vs. a bit older working as a career. 1st lesson to learn when calling BB is to talk directly w/the manager right off the bat. Took me about 4 calls to realize I didn't need to waste my (or their) time dealing with kids.

I'll start by saying that I'd be willing to bet 50+% of guys on this board make more annually than I do AND have more disposable income.

That said, it's hard to imagine spending $1300 more effectively in the A/V universe than on a 4311.

Stupid 1.4 HDMI connectivity.
Dual HDMI outs for that 3D PJ you know you'll want down the road.
XT32. Nuff said.
11 channel operation for the expanded surround you'll have to have to go with the PJ.
Solid video processing.
Multizone operation.
Airplay.
Slick GUI.
Iphone/ipad operability (especially nice for mutli zone controls).

The list goes on.

No offense, but stopping yourself at $1000 and passing on this unit for another $300 just seems foolish unless it's taking food off the table...and even then, most of us could afford to lose a few lbs, lol.

I really believe it could be- dollar for dollar- the best AVR I've ever seen and certainly one to keep around for 3-5 years quite easily.

And what's $300 over 5 years?

~15 cents a day.

Go for it.

James

Actual phone call (see pic to left):

Tech (responding to laughter): "I'm sorry sir, did I miss something?"

Me: "Yeah, a case of Diet Mountain Dew walking across my living room."

I don't disagree with you, but I'd be more careful with this "cents a day" logic.

That's what $300 amounts to. How bout $5 a month? The numbers are the numbers.

Either way it's simply a measure. If you're on AVS and even considering a $2,100 MSRP AVR, I'd assume you are all-but fanatical about the hobby and $5 a month to get what you REALLY want is less than peanuts when you consider what others dump into their "optional" pursuits.

It's just humorous to me that people will sweat certain purchases but spend $100 a month on starbucks.

Go figure.

Has anyone asked about the 3311 while on the phone with EE or ABT? I was just wondering what the lowest price might be if you step down a tier.

i wanted the 3311 since i read on AVS that they are similar to marantz 7005. But EE wanted $780 for it ... just $10 lesser than the current 3312. A4L has it for $619, and ecost for slightly lesser (though i've to pay shipping and taxes in TX)

But those deals (A4L and eCost) are on refurbs. Did you actually call, or are you quoting the online price?

I called EE and was told that they didn't have any. After i told them that they had it listed on amazon, and on their own website, they told me that i could have it for 780, and no less. They offered to sell the 3312 for 799 though.

Dude take a breath. Try on some punctuation.

Anyway, Hobby King is not known to be a great seller. You can see reseller ratings to gauge a reseller before ordering:
http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Hobby_King

Stores should reply in reasonable time, but some won't and you shouldn't do business with them. If you still have difficulty with them, contact your credit card holder and dispute any charges from them.

You can take that one step further -- it is a violation of their credit-card merchant contract for any reseller to charge your credit card before shipment. It may even be illegal, but at a minimum you have a slamdunk for disputing the charge with your credit card issuer.

Any current better deals for the 4311 than the recent $1249 - $1299 posts from an authorized Denon vendor and for a brand new unit? If so, please post or PM me more details. Thank you in advance.

after deciding to get the 3312 at a discount, I came across this thread. It seems the folks opinions here are that the 4311 > 3312, and from what I can tell: watts, channel and xt32 are the points that exceed the 3312. Is there anything (spec, version etc on any of hte protocols etc) that may be missing in the 4311 than the 3312, which was produced a year later?

This price makes it attractive.

I guess the main question is are the 3 - watts, channels and xt32 worth the bump?

I'm pretty sure that all you'd give up by switching from the 3312 to the 4311 is the on screen display when watching 3D content. But you might get more detailed responses posting the question in the AVR forum rather than the deals forum.

for you guys who ordered from newegg. My friend had one purchased from the egg at $1249. Then the HDMI board went bad. Sent it in to Denon service with a copy of the receipt and they fixed it no problem and shipped it back.

By law, a merchant should ship your order within the time stated in its ads or over the phone.
If the merchant doesn't promise a time, you can expect it to ship your order within 30 days.

Delays

If the merchant is unable to ship within the promised time, it must notify you by mail, telephone,

I'm close to pulling the trigger. Talked with Jason at EE (I think 152) and he made the same deal without hesitation. Very nice to chat with as well.

I'm just about sold on the 4311 > 3312, but it's still a chunk of change. I do like to buy and hold (I've had the AVR 4800 for 11 years) and I think I'll be more satisfied with that choice in the long run.

Have you been able to do a solid compare contrast between 3312 and 4311? I started another thread in the avr forum to get some info.

You and I have the same nagging questions...is it worth ~$500 to buy the 4311???? Arggg...

Short answer is no, I've not done any real listening to either. The local BB Magnolia has a 4311 set up on Martin-Logans but it would be a meaningless effort to try to figure out if it sounds good based on seeing it there.

I do believe that if you can afford the 4311, you won't be unhappy with the performance. I also believe that you won't be unhappy with the 3312. But, issues outside of performance could play a part. Wondering if you are getting as good of a sound stage as you would if you just bought the 4311.

If you scale these devices from 0 to 100...100 being ultimate performance, and 0 being my old AM radio, I'm pretty sure either device would be within a fraction of a percent of the other as far as how much enjoyment you derive from the device.

I'm leaning towards the 4311 for XT32 alone. I'm working on my HTR/music room, but it's going to have reflection issues that I'm going to need help to overcome I think.

I'll say this, I'm going to wait until the new products are at least announced and if they have a 3313 with XT32 and better price point than the 4311, I'll probably go that direction.

Patience is a virtue and there's no deal that only comes around once (EXCEPT that darn Vann's $799 deal!!!)

$799 i think is a no brainer for me at that point.

still, can't figure out if 4311 lacks anything the 3312 has.

I am not going to have a theater room and such, just our family room 14x18 open rear into kitchen. I'm sure both will be fine, but I do have a second zone to consider. So is the $500 worth it to power 2 outdoor Polks? not sure at this point.

you can get a second receiver for way less than that. Just a thought.
