I picked up a Denon AVR-1712 for $227 + tax at my local Fry's tonight (Downer's Grove, IL). $245 OTD on a brand new unit beats $249 + shipping on a refurb, which is what I was going to do. As of a couple weeks ago, EE and JR were around $310-$325 shipped.

Fry's must have just dropped the price on that one. Was $399 here in California less than 2 weeks ago.

The tag in the store said $399, but the in-store circular said $227 (http://frys.com/ads/page2).

I saw the flier, it did not mention "1712", so I called and asked about it. They had no 1712's and said the ad was for the 1312... Obviously a lot of folks got the 1712 for the $227.00... Best I've come up with is EE with TECHBARGAINS2012, comes to $289.98, not that far from Frys $246 with tax.

What...a Fry's employee lying to you because he's clueless??? That's never happened before! .

The 1312 is a 5.1 receiver and the ad clearly states 7.1. To the best of my knowledge, the 1312 also doesn't have any type of auto-EQ system and the picture in the Fry's ad clearly shows the Audyssey EQ mic. Both of these indicate that it can't be a 1312 just by the writing in the ad. It's not just good luck that "a lot of folks got the 1712."

My particular question... I've got a Denon 3805, and have been debating whether upgrading to this would be good. I don't need all the power of the 3805, but the amp quality appears to have lower distortion numbers and so I don't know if getting the Audyssey EQ and the auto sound leveling would be worthwhile. That seems to be the biggest feature I would like to have other than HDMI switching, since I"m constantly bouncing volume levels so that loud sections of movies don't wake the kids, but that we can still hear the quiet sections properly.

Any input on this decision?

The receiver is missing from their website, as well as their internal sales system. It took the guy about 20 minutes to find it, and he had to use the inventory system ID number, which is 703-75-21. If you give them that number, that will tell them if they have it in stock.

The store tag showed $399, but it rang up at $227 at the register. If it doesn't, bring a printed copy of http://frys.com/ads/page2

Thanks, plan on going to the store Monday to see what happens. I guess with that in store confusion, maybe there's a chance there will be some left.

edit: Got mine! Stack of about 15 with a $399 tag on the stack. Rings up at $227!

Got the last two in Indianapolis. Thanks - I had just ordered two on Wednesday from Amazon (currently $280), and cancelled them today.

Was just about to post this. Was torn between a couple of models but ultimately settled on the Denon 1712. Best price I could find online was $251 + $20 shipping on Buy.com and was just about to pull the trigger. I just happened to look up Fry's website and noticed that for this model they had it listed at $399 and was pre-order only...but it also said limit 1 per household like it was on sale. Obviously something was up. I went up to the store (Plano, TX) to check it out, and low-and-behold they had them in stock for $227, just over $245 after tax. I snatched it up and just got home to install it. Can't wait!

So for anyone looking, don't believe what you see online. Most likely whoever listed it on their site got it confused with the upcoming 1713.

Picked one up last weekend, had BB price match Fry's and they did $226.99 no tax (in Oregon). Have not installed as of yet but seems like a nice little AVR for our game room at that price, will be replacing a Denon 591 so not a major upgrade.
