Its a fine sub. But, again, I would rather have 2 rw12s. But if you do get it buy it directly from SVS rather than Amazon.
If you want to do better than 2 rw12s in that price range youre going to have to spend around $700.

No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die!

Which SVS 10" sub, the ported model or the sealed? Either are $200 more than the RW12d. The ported version has lower extension per manufacturers specs, sealed closer to the RW12d spec. SVS makes a good sub and many highly rank their CS. They're $200 more, though. For the $500 price point might look at Outlaw too. What's your max budget?

$500 is probably my max for the sub.

Personally, as was suggested, I'd spend $100 more and get two RW12d's until such time as you can get into upper level subs....

The caveat was that the grilles are backordered and they don't expect to get any in the US until July 1st. So I guess I have to wait for a few months. I just wanted to post an update and let the rest of you know about the backorder on grilles in case you are affected as well.

I just received notice from Klipsch that my warranty replacement grille has been shipped. smile.gif

Guess it's time to decide between the RW12 and the SVS that so many on this forum like. Or, do I keep the B&W ASW610?

Just jumped on this deal. This will be my first dedicated sub. I'm excited!

And already I don't know what cable to order. My receiver (Denon AVR-E300) has the typical one-RCA-plug subwoofer pre-out. Pic. However, reading the RW-12d's manual, it says that you use 2 RCA cables to connect the receivers pre-out to the L/R in, or one RCA cable to connect the receivers LFE out to the 'left' RCA in only. So am I supposed to get a 1 -> 2 RCA cable or a 1 -> 1 RCA cable?

I can't believe I'm confused by hooking up a sub! Shouldn't this be the easiest speaker of all? Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Oh, and I have read the subwoofer setup 101. Here's the relevant bit:
Quote (Click to show)
Quote:
You'll want to use a Y-Adapter to combine the two (left-white & right-red) RCA jacks on the Subwoofer into one. They are labeled “Left and Right Line-In Inputs”, but for a typical home theater, you only have one cable coming from the receiver to the Subwoofer. If you don't have one or don't want to get one, you don't need the Y-Adapter; just use the left or right input by itself. Some prefer using the Y-Adapters because it makes the auto-on/off switching more efficient on some Subwoofers.

I think I've turned a little daft because I still can't tell if it's better to go 1 -> 2 or 1 -> 1.

The manual says "left and/or right". Most people only use the left RCA input.

Something like this:

or an extension (male to female) if you already have one like this.

Enjoy!

Thanks! I'll go with the 1 -> 1 cable then. Ordered both the 12ft and the 25ft. Hopefully I can get away with the shorter but it'll be tight. Thank Gods for Monoprice, where stuff is so cheap you can just order both.

Now if the sub arrives before the cables, I'll be staring at it frustratedly for a while. smile.gif On the other hand it'll give me chance to complain to Newegg about the presumably mal-attached port tube and I can get the trip to Lowe's for some epoxy out of the way.

I was about to get a SVS PB1000 ($500), but I could get two of these for nearly the same price.

Thoughts?

I'd get the 2, or, get an Open box SVS for $450. And another later.

On the other hand, I can get 1 used SW-115 for the price of 2 RW-12ds.

Keep in mind I have 4 AVRs, so want 5 more SWs, RW-12d, or better.

Huge Den, main system area. 1 RW-12d & 1 km-rsw (Free part of Speaker deal) there now.

Thoughts???

So Newegg has this on sale again. I have been waiting for it to go back on sale and now I must make a decision. I have an MTX SW2 12" 100watt I purchased new years ago. My media room is roughly 11'x10'. Is this a worthy upgrade for me? I think it must be but there are so many complaints about the grill and port hole that I just want to be sure. What I'm really looking for is more accuracy than what I get out of my MTX SW2. Thanks for your opinions.

The first thing you'll want to try is using them BOTH. The Klipsch will go in your main speaker position, and you can use the MTX elsewhere to eliminate any room nulls.

Get one.

Unless, of course, we can talk you into getting two.

review of the 505
Way too loud for the wife. Very heavy and solid built. I picked it up for a song and am really happy with it. This thing is going to get me a lot of yells or slaps from the wife.
http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-12-Inch-Powered-Subwoofer/product-reviews/B000092TT0/ref=cm_cr_pr_btm_link_next_2?ie=UTF8&pageNumber=2&showViewpoints=0&sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescending

Is he talking about his wife or the sub? lol

If it were me, I'd rather have one really good sub, with a decent warranty. Stash some $ for another one down the road.

http://www.hsuresearch.com./products/stf-2.html
7 year warranty on the sub, 2 on the amp.

How large is your room?

Well I went for it. I don't think my room calls for 2. The MTX already fills the room very well and I haven't had any positional problems. This sub is quite a bit more powerful than the MTX. The main difference when it comes to position is that the MTX is a floor-firing model and my house is on a craw space. I don't know how much effect that has but I doubt I will be disappointed. I'm just hoping the unit arrives in one piece.

The PSW505 is a decent sub don't get me wrong and excellent value for the $ but the RW-12D is in a whole other class altogether and an even better bang for the $ IMHO despite being nearly double the price... I have listened to both. Bought the 505 for my Uncle and using the RW-12D for myself.

Mu unit arrived today. The port tube was completely detached. I reached in and pulled it into place but it definitely needs to be secured. I will look at some of the solutions that have been used and take care of it soon. It seems to be working fine for now. No damage otherwise.

I've had mine for a while now (picked it up for $279 when it was on sale) but am just now able to start using it. My port tube was completely detached as well. Last night I began to go about fixing it. It's easier than you might think... remove the 6-8 torx screws holding the woofer in place, disconnect the +/- leads to the sub (they are on there pretty tight), remove the woofer out of the way, then you have plenty of access to the port tube and where it mounts to so you can apply epoxy.

You will want to apply an even bead around the port tube then press it into place and clamp it or hold it for as long as what's spec'd by the epoxy. I forget what I used but any adhesive for plastic/wood will work (hardware stores, Lowes, etc should have it). Just make sure it can at least be used on plastic because plastic is one of the tougher materials to bond.

I'm in the market for a sub. I am torn between the Klipsch RW12 and the HSU STF1 or STF2. I ordering a Klipsch RC 42II as my center speaker so I'm leaning towards getting the Klipsch sub as well. Which of these subs would be best for someone who will be using it for 50% music and 50% movies?
