If you have a network receiver, Blu-Ray player, a media server or any networkable component a hardwired connection is better than wireless. If you have no available Ethernet ports on your router, adding a switch gets you some more.

A five port switch nets you three more ports (one replaces a port already in use, and another is required for the uplink) so an eight port switch gets you six more.

Usually an eight port switch is $10-20 more than a five port switch - twice as many ports for considerably less than twice as much money, but this price is even less than a five port switch. It's not likely to last. You have to add another 1ยข to get free shipping though rolleyes.gif

No affiliation, I don't have this model and don't need a switch at the moment, but if I did I'd buy this one.
