All,

After reading through tons of posts, I am leaning towards building a 3.1 system (instead of a 5.1 - and add the rears later). Here are the narrowed down choices :

Assumptions: Floorstanding towers are generally better than bookshelf speakers
Constraints: Sub 1000/-

Setup:
1) PT-AR100U projector
2) HT-AVR1700
3) Room is about 40' x 25' x 9'. Distance to the screen from seating: 15'
4) Intended for TV,Movies, Music, XBOX, Wii

Option-1: (Martin Logan)

ML 12 Fronts: 269*2 = 538
ML 6 Center: 300/-
ML Sub woofer: 150/- (Dynamo 300)
==========
Grand total=$998/-
==========

Option-2: (Energy)

Energy CF-30 Floorstanding/Tower Speaker (Black): $224*2=$450
Energy CC-10 Center Channel Speaker: $320
Energy ESW-C10 10-Inch 400 Watt Subwoofer : $400
=================
Grand total: $1170/-
================

Option3:
Energy 5.1 Take Classic Home Theater System: $400/- (and hope to afford a $5000/- step up later in life smile.gif)

Option4:
Bose® CineMate® GS Series II Digital Home Theater Speaker System : $720/-

Thank you in advance,

Reg.

Can't help u with the choice but wanted to let u know that amazon sells the take 5.1 classic for 299 like every other week wink.gif So if u don't need it right away put it in your cart and you will see when the price goes down again.

I don't agree that towers are "generally better" than bookshelf speakers. They are better if you are NOT going to use a sub though. I haven't heard any of your choices, but I do love my Energy speakers.

I bought the C-series bookshelf, center, and bipole surround speakers when they were closing them out. I think it was about 3 years ago.
