For $598, it's pretty tough to beat this for a pair of towers, so I went in for a pair at my local Frys b&m.

For those who don't live near a Fry's, there is free shipping if you order online; and unlike me, you'll avoid tax.

I may not even get a chance to use this until my roommate moves his stuff out of the living room, but this was just too good a deal.

These have been out of stock for a while now. Are these the original RC-70's, or perhaps a revamp to Klipsch/Energy's somewhat lower recent build standards?

They were actually in stock longer online than I thought they'd be. Fry's still have them in stock at a lot of their B&M stores. They are back to regular price ($599 a piece), but if you're willing to wait, I'm betting they'll go back on sale again. They just won't ship them.

These are the original RC70s. They are the last batch that were intended for Vann's but, b/c of their bankruptcy issues, were given to Frys. Once these are gone, we will have seen the last of the RC series speakers from retail.

Thank you for the info. The local Fry's did not have them in stock; on a whim called the one where my dad lives (on the other side of the country) and they did have them available, but sale ended before I could get a hold of him and ask him to put an order in in my name :-( Will wait till the next sale, I guess. Went to the local Best Buy/Magnolia store, and auditioned the floor speakers they had on display. Liked the Energy CF-70's best of all- maybe not super accurate, but a good presentation, if somewhat laid-back with the receiver I was driving them with. RC'-70s are supposed to be significantly superior to their latest models (see: http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/speakers/floorstanding/energy-veritas-v-6.3-1), so I can only imagine how good those would have sounded. Anyway, will bide my time. Thanks again.

For anyone listening I was interested in these speakers and Fry's showed them in their weekly ad but showed no products available. I went out to check out some other stuff and happened to check on the Energy's. I have just sold my older klipsch bookshelf speakers to a friend and wanted to replace them. I checked out the RC-10 which showed none available but had one box on shelf and some on display. He turned them on and "BAM"....I bought the last set. I (without listening to it!) bought one of the LCR Energy for a center. I was really impressed with the RC-10 sound that I assumed the LCR would have to rock and they have the RC-70's for $399. They have been on sale on and off for the last couple of weeks for about $699 but they are on their shelf for $399 each and I am going tomorrow to snag a set. I figure if they go on sale again I will wait to hook them up and return them and buy at the sale price. ALL OF THIS IS BASED ON THE RC-10 SOUND!!!!!! I have Bowers and Wilkins 600 series speakers but I want to go a little bigger and the RC-70's should do the trick. I had to pass that on.......Good luck and may the sound fairy follow you wherever you go! I LIKE THEM....GO ENERGY!

$400 is still a very good deal, chances are they will go on sale again in the next few weeks and he will be able to price match. If he already has the rc-10's and rc-lcr, it would be wise for him to buy them while they still are available.
