I was browsing through the Best Buy store 535 in Portsmouth, NH yesterday and came across the Pioneer BDP-62FD Blu Ray Player for $179.99, marked down from MSRP of $399.99!

Not sure who all has stock at that price across the country, and I didn't see it priced online as a special or anything, so YMMV.

I see open box ones on sale for $169.99, but for $10 more I'd assume we'd all just rather get it new.

Cheers!

Btw, is it worth it to get the $34.99 4-year Geek Squad warranty on these?

Well, I don't play console games and this unit mates better visually on the media stand with my other home theater equipment.

Also, as a standalone player, some have reviewed this unit to be on par with the Oppo for a/v quality via HDMI.

I guess if I were a gamer, I'd probably wait for the PS4 instead of getting a PS3 at this point anyways.

But thanks for the suggestion!

In terms of current PS3 versus this unit -- this unit is the hands down choice if you enjoy hi-def audio formats (DVD-A and SACD) as the current (Slim) PS3 can play neither. This is a universal disk player on par with Oppo's offerings at a fraction of the cost.

Thanks for the heads up OP. I may have to break down and pick one up.

Best Buy, Magnolia, in Indianapolis (Castleton) still has them on sale in-store. They are still 199.00. But, below them on another shelf, they had another label showing them for 179.00. So, they gave it to me for the 179.99 price, even though at the register it came up for 199.00. They still had about 4 in-stock on the shelf.
